Unitary System of Government
A system of government where power is almost entirely centralized in a national/ federal government.
Examples: UK, Japan, and Sweden.
Confederal System of Government
A system of government in which the states have all of the power and the federal government has very little power. Also known as a confederation.
Example: Articles of Confederation
Federal System of Government
A system of government in which power is shared between the national government and smaller regional governments within the nation (states).
Examples: USA, Canada, and India
Enumerated Powers
Powers explicitly granted to Congress, the president, or the Supreme Court in Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution.
Examples:
Congress's power to raise and support armies
Congress's power to lay and collect taxes
President's power as commander in chief
