Anti-Inflammatory Drugs
Medications used to reduce inflammation and pain.
Glucocorticoids
Steroid hormones that mimic cortisol and are used to reduce inflammation and suppress the immune system.
Cortisol
The primary stress hormone produced by the adrenal cortex, involved in various metabolic processes and immune response regulation.
NSAIDs (Non-steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs)
A class of drugs that provide analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects without the use of steroids.
DMARDs (Disease Modifying Anti-Rheumatic Drugs)
Medications designed to slow the progression of inflammatory diseases like rheumatoid arthritis.
Homeostasis
The process by which biological systems maintain stability while adjusting to conditions that are optimal for survival.
Cushing's Syndrome
A hormonal disorder caused by prolonged exposure to high levels of cortisol.
Immunosuppression
The reduction of the activation or efficacy of the immune system.
Phospholipase
An enzyme that hydrolyzes phospholipids, playing a role in the inflammatory pathway.
Arachidonic Acid
A fatty acid that is released from cell membrane phospholipids and is a precursor to various inflammatory mediators.
Cytokines
Signaling proteins that modulate immune responses and inflammation.
Acetaminophen
Also known as paracetamol, a medication used to treat pain and fever.
Biologics
Targeted therapies that are derived from living organisms and are used to treat autoimmune diseases.
Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA)
A chronic inflammatory disorder affecting the joints, leading to pain and stiffness.
QUM (Quality Use of Medicines)
Principles that guide healthcare providers in ensuring the safe and effective use of medications.
Pharmacodynamics
The study of the effects of drugs on the body and the mechanisms of their action.
Patient History
A comprehensive assessment of a patient's health history, including previous reactions to medications.
