He has no patience with lazy, unsuccessful men. His biggest influance is shame/fear(fear of being a failure). The book says, “he was possessed by the fear of his fathers contemptible life and shameful death,”(pg 18).

Ikemefuna
15 year old boy(at the time) that Okonkwo takes in; Given as payment, along with a young virgin girl, to the village because their village killed Ogbuefi Udo’s wife from Umuofia.
Okonkow ends up killing him because the Orical wanted him dead, however, Okonkwo was told not to go when the kill was going to happen. He went anyway and mourned over his death for a couple days.

12 years old at the beging of the book. Okonkwo’s first born son. Okonkwo belived that he was very lazy and caused him anxiety.
