1st Amendment

2nd Amendment
Civil right/ civil liberty that guarantees the right of citizens to keep and bear arms.
3rd Amendment
Civil liberty - protection from the government against quartering; Government cannot force you to house soldiers.
4th Amendment
Civil liberty - protection from the government that protects against unreasonable searches and seizures.
Warrant Requirement
Requires authorities to obtain a warrant based on probable cause before conducting searches.
5th Amendment
Civil Right that protects against self-incrimination, double jeopardy, and ensures the right to due process of law.
Self-incrimination
The act of revealing or stating something that could be used as evidence to convict oneself of a crime.
Double Jeopardy
You can't be tried a second time for the same crime.
Right to due process of law
No one shall be deprived of life, liberty or property without the due process of law.
6th Amendment
Right to speedy and fair trial, right to impartial jury, and right to an attorney, even if you cannot afford one.
7th Amendment
Civil liberty that ensures the right to trial by jury in civil cases.
8th Amendment
Prohibits cruel and unusual punishment and excessive bails or fines.
9th Amendment
Affirms that the writing down of certain rights in the constitution does not limit the rights of the people.
10th Amendment
If it does not say what the federal government can do, it is interpreted to the states.
