‘sed praeter alia omnia leonum,’ inquit, ‘immanitas admirationi fuit praeterque omnes ceteros unus.

‘But more than everything else, ‘ he said, ‘the huge size of the lions was a source of amazement, and more than all the other [lions], one [in particular].

is unus leo corporis impetu et vastitudine terrificoque fremitu et sonoro, toris comisque cervicum fluctuantibus, animos oculosque omnium in sese converterat.

This one lion, [because of] the power and huge size of its body and its terrifying and resounding roar, and the rippling muscles and flowing mane of its neck, had drawn the attention and eyes of everyone upon itself.

introductus erat inter complures ceteros ad pugnam bestiarum datus servus viri consularis; ei servo Androclus nomen fuit.

There was brought in, among several others assigned for the fight with the wild beasts, the slave of an ex-consul; the slave's name was Androclus.

Then, in the manner and way of dogs showing affection, it waved its tail gently and caressingly and came close to the body of the man, [who was] now nearly half-dead with fear, and gently licked with his tongue [the man’s] legs and hands.
