How many main approaches are used to study the body?

What is the coronal (frontal) plane?
Vertical plane dividing the body into front (anterior) and back (posterior) sections
What does anterior (ventral) mean?
Front of the body
What does posterior (dorsal) mean?
Back of the body
What is the prone position?
Lying face-down (anterior side down)
What is the supine (dorsal) position?
Lying on your back (posterior side down)
What is the sagittal plane?
Vertical plane dividing the body into right and left sections
What is a midsagittal plane?
Divides the body into equal right and left halves
What is a parasagittal plane?
Divides the body off the midline
What is the transverse plane?
Horizontal plane dividing the body into upper (superior) and lower (inferior) sections

Closer to where a limb attaches to the body
