Scene 1
Blanche comes to visit her sister Stella and Stanley. Characters get acquanted with eachother. Blanche basically tells Stella how tragic her life is: losing Belle Reve, her young husband dying
Scene 2
Stanley learns from Stella that Blanche lost Belle Reve. He is skeptical and bring up Napoleanic Code. Stanley also goes through Blanche's things to reveal the expensive things that she has. Stella fishes for compliments from Stanley when they are alone. He is not very responsive. Stella takes Blanche out while Stanley and his friends drink and play poker
Scene 3
Poker night. Mitch reveals he must leave early to take care of his sick mother. Mitch goes to bathroom. Stella and Blanche come back, Blanche meets Mitch. The two women are in one room while the men play poker in the other. Mitch enouncters Blanche again, They flirt, Blanche lies about her age. Blanche turns on radio again, Stanley goes berserk, Stella tells the poker group to go home, he hits Stella, group showers him to get some sense into him. Stella goes upstairs to Eunice, Stanley distraught STELLLAAAAAAAAAAA!
Mitch tells Blanche this happens all the time.
Scene 4
Blanche finds out Stanley and Stella made up. She is not amused. Stella is "thrilled" by Stanley's drunken rages. Blanche insults Stanley calling him common, bestial, primal, etc. Stanley listens outside. Stella defends Stanley. He walks in, pretending not to have heard anything, hugs Stella.
Scene 5
Scene opens with us overhearing fight between Steve and Eunice upstairs. Blanche brings up astrological sign with Stanley, she thinks he is Ares, but he is actually Capricorn. Blanche is Virgo. Stanley mentions Blanche's past. Flamingo Hotel. Blanche left alone, young man comes to door selling magezine. She stalls him and tries to keep him there. He eventually leaves, Mitch shows up with flowers for Blanche
Scene 6
Blanche and Mitch arrive back at the house. He knows she didnt have a good time that night. Blanche tells him of the boy she married when she was young. Mitch tells her of his sick mother. Blanche avoids direct light, dodges questions about her age...
Scene 7
A while later after previous scene, on Blanche's birthday. Stanley tells Stella about the details he found out about Blanche's life. Reveals she lost her job as a teacher because she got involved with a student. Stanley tells Stella not to expect Mitch because he told him about Blanche's past and how she lied. Stanley tells Stella he bought Blanche a ticket back to Laurel.
Scene 8
Scene an hour after previous scene. The household on Blanche's birthday. Mitch still hasn't shown up because Stanley told Mitch about Blanche, but Blanche doesn't know this. She knows something is up because of the way Stella is acting. Stanley gives Blanche a birthday present, a one way ticket to Laurel. Stella defends Blanche. "Nobody, nobody, was tender and trusting as she was. But people like you abused her, and forced her to change." Stanley is about to leave to go bowling, but then Stella tells him she needs to go to the hospital because the baby's coming
Scene 9
Late at night, Mitch comes over when Blanche is at the house alone. She tries to flirt with him, but he refuses her. Mitch is angry with Blanche. He takes the shades off of a lamp and sees Blanche's face in full light for the first time. Blanche ends up confessing what she did in the past, everything that Mitch and Stanley heard from the guy that passes through Laurel. An old Mexican women interrupts and tries to sell flowers for the dead. Mitch holds her and wants to take her to bed, she says he should marry her first. Mitch says she's not clean enough to be in the same house as his mother. She threatens to scream, he leaves.
Scene 10
Stanley comes home, Stella still in hospital. Blanche is all dressed up in a gown and the tiara. She says she is finding something suitable to wear for the rich man who invited her on a cruise in the Caribbean. He offers to bury hatchet with Blanche and share a drink. He is a good mood. She declines. Things turn sour. An exchange of insult follows and then Stanley rapes Blanche.
Scene 11
Scene takes a place a few weeks after the previous scene. Stanley is playing poker with his friends. Eunice inquires Stella about Blanche. Stella says they've arranged her to go to a place in the country. Matron and a doctor show up. Eunice says there is a gentleman here for Blanche. Blanche believes it is the rich man who invited her on a cruise and is here to pick her up. She is at the door and finds out that it is not. She goes back into the house and the matron goes in to get her. The men try to assist her. Mitch tries to punch Stanley, then sits down and cries. They eventually are able to take her. Stella says goodbye as Blanche leaves around the corner. Blanche doesn't respond. After she is gone, Eunice hands Stella's baby to her and Stanley goes to comfort his sobbing wife. The poker game continues.
