The set o attitudes that shape political behavior
Rule of Law
The principle of a government that established laws that apply equally to all members o society and prevents the rule and whims of leaders who see themselves as above the law
Political socialization
The process by which you develop political beliefs
Political ideology
a consistent and comprehensive set of beliefs and values the proper role of government, the purpose of policy and the organization of society
Generational effect
How shared major historical, social, or economic events experienced by a specific age cohort shape their long term political attitudes and behaviors
Representative Sample
a small, accurately selected subset of a larger population that reflects key demographic characteristics of the whole group.
Weighting
Making sure demographic groups are properly represented in a sample
Sampling error
The difference between a samples pol results and the true opinion o an entire population, also called a margin of error
Exit poll
Polls conducted outside polling places on election day to publicly predict the outcome of the election after the polls close
Tracking poll
Polls used during the course of an election allow a campaign to trace issues and how a candidate is fairing with voters

The specigic sequence of questions in a poll that can shape results
Question wording
How a question is worded in a poll, shaping how respondents understand and answer it
Party ideology
refers to the set o belies and values that shape the goals, policies, and actions of ap olitical party
Party identification
A citizens self proclaimed preference for one party or the other
Conservatism
ideology avoring limited government intervention in the economy, traditional social values, and a strong nation defense
Libertarianism
A political ideology that advocates for social reform, addressing issues such as economic inequality and environmental protection through government action
Monetary policy
How the government manages the supply and demand of its currency and thus the value of the dollar
Fiscal Policy
That part of economic policy that is concerned with government spending and taxation
Medicare
A federal entitlement program established in 1965 that provides insurance for Americans aged 65+ and younger individual with disabilities
Valence Issue
Concerns or policies that are viewed in the same way by people with a variety of ideologies
Wedge issue
Used by political groups in strategic ways to gather support for an issue, especially among those who have yet to develop strong opinions
Saliency
The level of importance, prominence, or visibility an issue holds within the public consciousness at a given time
