What is atonement?
the beleif that Jesus’ death on the cross healed the rift between humans and God after the Fall, fixing a broken relationship

God becoming human in the form of Jesus, becoming flesh: “the Word became flesh”

the idea that God is all loving and infinitely Good, which only God can be. For example when he sacrificed Jesus on the cross

the idea that God is all powerful, amightly and unlimited in his anture, for exmaple when he created the world

coming back from the dead, the beleif that Jesus rose from the dead on Easter Sunday, conquering death

moral evil exists because we tend to do evil as we not have original sin
natural evil exists because hte world changed as a punishment for Adam and Eve’s action

moral evil exists because we have free will and is part of God’s plan- he knows what will happen but ensures it is part of a test to see who should go to heaven
natural evil exists because God is testing our faith in him when we suffer

moral evil exists because God gives us free will to ensure that those who are faithful achieve the eternal reward
natural evil exists because it is part of the temperoroy and imperfect world and faithfulness during this will be rewarded

Jesus was born by a virgin called Mary an angel called Gabriel appeared to her to tell her he would be pregant, she was pregnant throught the Holy Spirit, and it was a miracle, At his birth, there were shepherds who brought lambs. There were also three Wise men appeared who brought gifts- gold franinscense and myrrh During the night there was a star in the sky to guide the visitors

He wore a crown of thorns, he was made to carry his own cross, he was crucified by Pontius Pilare, he was next to a murderer and a thief, he asked God the Father to forgive those who were punishing him, he died at 3pm saying “it is done”. When Jesus died, the Earth shook, the sky went dark and the curtain in the temple ripped. At this moment atonement happened.

Why did atonement happen?
Because of the fall, humans are born with original sin meaning that all humans will commit sin in their lives. Beecause sin is the thing that keeps humans away from God. God need sot give humans a way of connecting with him again. He does through the incarnation of Jesus and the sacrifice Jesus makes by dying on the cross
How can people connect with God again?
now atonement has been achieved, they can follow Jesus’ teachings and achieve salvation, as said in the Parable of the Sheep and Goats

Jesus was buried in a cave which was guarded by Roman soldiers, 3 days after the crucifixion 2 women came to the tomb, they found the stone was rolled away, they went inside and the tomb was emplty. When they left an angel appeared and told them that Jesus had rised: “he is not here, he is risen”. They saw a man who they did not recognise and thought he was the gardener, he said he was Jesus so they shouted “Rabboni”. They told the disciples and Jesus proved it was him by showing his holes in his hands to Doubting Thomas

What is the importance of the resurrection?
without this, there would be no way for Christians to reconnect with God
they will be Christlike and not commit sin because there is evidence of an afterlife

40 days after the resurrection, Jesus rose back to heaven. He gathered all of his disciples and said his final words. He gave the Greatest Commision. He told them to “Go make disciples of all nations”, both Jesus’ body and soul were taken, he was taken up to God the Father, he was taken up so that he could judge who went to heaven/hell with the Father. After that, Jesus is seated at the right hand of the Father.
