Fossils
Remains of life that have been preserved in sediments and sedimentary rocks. A fossil must have hard parts (teeth and bones) and must be buried rapidly.
Permineralization
Pores and open spaces in the tissue are filled with minerals precipitated from mineral-rich solutions such as groundwater.
Mold and Cast
Mold - When remains are buried in sediment, which mold an open space. Then a hollow place is left because they were dissolved.
Cast - Then the hollow space is filled with minerals
Amber
Fossilized from tree sap, insects are usually preserved in it.
Carbonization
When soft-bodied organisms are buried in sediment and dissolve away. The only thing left carbon outlining the organism’s shape.
Freezing
Frozen organaisms
Trace fossils
Fossils from the activities of organisms. Such as poop, or tracks, or burrows.
