Can be stressful for both parties, Miers et al found some victims found the experience unsettling and intimidating.
How can Psychological harm be caused from RJ?
If criminal shows no empathy to victim they can feel ‘revictimised’ or the victims may gang up on the offender and shame which is dangerous if criminal is young.

In cases such as domestic violence there is already a power imbalance which the offender may use to manipulate victim.

Prisoners are far more likely to suffer from mental illness, them confronting their actions can lead to greater risk of depression, self harm or even suicide; victims can also be triggered such as PTSD.

whilst the process is voluntary offenders may feel obliged to take part especially when offered a reduced sentence as an incentive. Victim may not feel ready even if offender is.
