Properties of proteins 1
Proteins are the linear polymers of amino acids joined by peptide bonds that spontaneously fold into active structures.
properties of proteins 2
Proteins contain a wide range of chemically functional groups. Different amino acids contain different functional groups.
properties of proteins 3
Proteins work togethers and form complex assemblies to carryout essential processes.
Amino acids
Building block of proteins that vary in size, shape, chage, bonding capacity and reactivity. withe carbonyl group, amine group an dR group.
Categorizing amino acids
Nonpolar if there are a bunch of. Hydrogens and carbons,. Polar if theres an uncharged nitrogen or oxygen. Acidic if negatively charged. Basic if positively charged.
Aromatic acids
Have benzene ring and are non polar with more carbons which makes them more non polar.
Charges
The charges are so important because they affect the category and polarity of the molecule or compound.
Chirality
Almost all amino acids have a chiral carbon. To be Chiral the carbon has to hav e4 different groups attached to it.
poly peptide
A chain of amino acids, Backbone contains the regularly repeating units called peptide main chain. variable regions due to the side chains.
Peptide Bonds
A covalent bon that links amino acids together to form polypeptide chain. Has a double bond character so it can’t rotate and adopts cis or trans configuration.
