Stage One: Trust vs Mistrust

Stage Two: Autonomy vs Shame
Muscular stage (2-3 years old); child seeks individuality; shame equals rage directed at self.
Stage Three: Initiative vs Guilt
Locomotor control stage (3-5 years old); children create their own rules in play, e.g. playing house.
Stage Four: Industry vs Inferiority
Latency stage (6-12 years old); children rewarded for achievements; lack of rewards leads to feelings of inadequacy.
Stage Five: Identity vs Identity Confusion
Puberty stage (13-18 years old); individuals decide who they will become and search for love.
Stage Six: Intimacy vs Isolation
Young adult stage (18-30 years old); commitment to relationships that may require sacrifice.
Stage Seven: Generativity vs Stagnation
Adulthood stage (30-65 years old); generativity involves procreation, productivity, and creativity for societal improvement.
Stage Eight: Ego Integrity vs Ego Despair
Maturity stage (65 and up); achieving a sense of coherence and remaining active in society.
