What does 3PD stand for?
Persistent Postural Perceptual Dizziness
Is CSD (3PD) a true vertigo or ataxia?
No
What do patients describe as their symptoms in 3PD?
They describe vague, nonspecific light-headedness, subjective sensations of imbalance
They may complain that the inside of their head is spinning or that they are swaying when standing still
What are some symptoms of CSD?
Dizziness persistent > 3 months
Hypersensitivity to motion that’s chronic > 3 months
Visual vertigo
What will tests show of a patient with 3PD?
It will show an absence of active physical neurotologic illnesses, medical conditions or medications that may cause dizziness
Normal radiographic images of the brain
Normal or non-diagnostic findings on balance function tests
What is conversion disorder?
A condition in which one shows psychological stress in physical ways
Conversion disorde signs and symptoms appear with no underlying cause, and your patient can’t control them.
What are some common conversion disorder symptoms?
Poor coordination or balance
Paralysis in one arm or leg
Difficulty swallowing
Inability to speak
Deafness
How do we diagnose conversion disorder?
Symptoms not explained by neurological disease
Determination of psychological factors
Exclusion of malingering
Determined by a neurologist and/or a psychiatrist
