Training Needs Assessment (TNA CYCLE)
● Method to understanding what and where needed to be improved
● Gaps in-between
Assessing and analyzing, Develop learning objectives, Design and Develop Program, Implement design, Evaluate Performance
THE ORDER OF THE CYCLE
Assessing and analyzing
● Analyzing what, when, what, and how
Develop learning objectives
● Frameworks, management, and course/s of action
Design and Develop Program
● Time frame, session plans, methods and strategies, resources and objectives
Implement design
● Application of program and gathering of data
Evaluate Performance
● Assess and evaluate performance and behavior
1. Identify needs 2. Design training 3. Develop training 4. Deliver training 5. Apply learning 6. Evaluate
6 TRAINING CYCLE
analyze, design, develop, implement, evaluate
ADDIE MODEL
1970s
ADDIE model was developed in the __________ at the US Army by the Centre for Educational Technology at Florida State University.
Analyze
● Observe the situation
● Answer the questions what and who
● Things to be considered:
○ What is the point of the training?
○ Who is the training for?
○ What knowledge do they need to learn? What do they already know?
○ What goals are to be achieved?
○ What behaviors do they need to implement after the training?
○ What resources are required and available?
Design
● Create a storyboard for presentation for strategies and decisions
● Things to be considered:
○ The sequence of the content and the activities
○ Objectives of each session or unit
○ Skills or outcomes you are hoping to achieve for each of the sessions/unit
○ What methods will you use?
○ How will you assess the audience on their understanding of the material?
Develop
● Skeletal structure of the program
● Using the storyboard as a guide
● Things to be considered:
○ What media to use when teaching
○ Choosing graphics, colors, and fonts — to make the material more engaging
○ How to create a lesson plan
○ Which facilitators and what activities to be included
○ Checking for basis errors, grammar, spelling, syntax
Implement
● Delivery of the developed program
● Things to be considered
○ Who will be enrolled in the course ○ How much time they will be given
○ What is the passing threshold for assessments
○ How to collect feedbacks
Evaluate
● Check if the objectives in the program were met | two parts: formative & summative
Evaluation
- is the phase that occurs throughout the process
SOURCES OF INFORMATION FOR TNA CYCLE
Surveys or questionnaires > identifying questions
Interviews > direct insights
Focus group discussion > open communication
Direct observation > live assessment
Training needs assessment (TNA)
- is not limited to one pathway, it promotes openness, development, and employee well-being
ADDIE Model
- was created by Florida State University Military in 1975. It was intended to be applied linearly, and evaluation techniques were applied.
Revised ADDIE Model
● this in order to make ADDIE more dynamic and iterative, practitioners and learning designers have evolved the model over time.
ADDIE Model
- serves as a guide to help or design a course or program for tna or any development of training.
