Convection
Transfer of heat in a fluid where the warmer part of the mass will rise and the cooler portions will sink.

Convection Current
Movement of a fluid, caused by differences in temperature, that transfers heat from one part of the fluid to another.

Conduction
Heat is transferred to an object when two objects are in contact with each other.

Electromagnetic Waves
A form of energy that can travel through space.

Energy Transfer
Movement of energy from one place or object to another.

Fluid
A substance able to flow or take the shape of its container, for example liquids and gases.

Heat
The transfer of thermal energy from a warmer object to a cooler object. It moves in a predictable pattern from warmer to cooler.

Medium
Material through which a wave travels.

Radiation
The transfer of thermal energy in the form of electromagnetic waves, such as sunlight, without the need for a medium.

System
A set of interacting parts forming a complex whole.

Temperature
A measure of the average energy of motion of the particles of a substance.

Thermal Equilibrium
When the temperatures of materials that are in contact are the same.

Source object
from which thermal energy is transferred to a system.

Receiver object
to which thermal energy is transferred from a source.

Wave
A disturbance that transfers energy through space or matter.

Mechanical wave
A type of wave that requires a medium (solid, liquid, or gas) to travel through, transmitting energy via particle vibrations.

Transverse wave
A wave in which the motion of the medium is perpendicular to the direction of the wave propagation, such as in waves on a string.

Longitudinal wave
A type of wave in which the medium's particle motion is parallel to the direction of wave propagation, such as sound waves.
