Ukemi falling backward
Protect back of head and back of body. Both arms hit the mat and palms. Fingers are open
Ukemi falling sideway
Protect head, shoulder, and arm. One leg bent and other straight. One arm on stomach other slapping palm on mat.
Kiyai- spirited yell
To startle opponent, exhale and tighten core muscle for power, Alerts others that someone may need help.

Striking parts of body
Forefist, backfist, knife hand,palm heel, fingertips, hammer fist, elbow, knee, ball of foot, heel of foot, instep ( top of foot).
Four most important target areas
Eyes, solar plexus ( under breast, middle chest), groin, knee
Punching points
Keep fist tightly closed, focus on short distance to body, tense stomach muscles, and exhale when strike target. Middle, upper, lower punch.
Blocking key points
Lower, upper, middle outside, middle inside block.
Kicking key points
Bend knee supporting leg balance and power. Knee kick -strike with knee. Front snap kick - pull toes back and strike with ball of foot.
Joint locks
Safety signal - tap yourself or floor or say STOP. ATTACK WEAK POINTS, apply and realize locks slowly.
Kata
Kata soon ichi . 20 steps plus start and return. Two hiyai at 8 and 16 steps. Foot pattern is letter H or I . Right , left, windows closes, around to right , left, far window, than left

Tighten neck, take pinky’s of opponent and kick their legs. OR take one hand up and turn to collect opponent hands and lean down OR just block them with one arm turning to them OR turn around take one hand and block use other to punch face
Wrist grab
Take opponent hand and put thumbs on their knuckles, rotate in, twist arm to side and bend. OR open arms and pull them in and kick groin OR step in with hand open, other arm straight to choke them, put leg behind attackers leg OR pull them in and poke eyes
Wrist reversal
Attacker takes both wrist, so you open your and pull them in and kick groin OR take one hand of attacker put thumbs behind their knuckles and twist.
Elbow lock
Take their hand or wrist , Go to the Side if their arm, twist arm and go inward.
Throwing technique
Break opponent balance, know direction of opponent power and movement, guide them, support partner weight, maintain control , release after throwing.
When being thrown : yield and slap mat, always keep head up, release opponent sleeve.
O-Soto-gari( big outside reaping )good counter to close frontal attacks
