Industrial Waste
Residual materials produced as a result of industrial activity, including solid rocks, chemicals, plastics, and other harmful substances.
Biodegradable Industrial Waste
Waste materials that can be decomposed into simpler unharmful substances by the action of microorganisms.
Non-biodegradable Industrial Waste
Waste that cannot be further decomposed via the action of microorganisms, often containing toxins that can pollute soil and water for thousands of years.
Solid Waste (Industrial)
Scraps, metals, packaging, construction debris, and other non-liquid materials from industrial processes.
Liquid Waste (Industrial)
Chemicals, oils, contaminated water, and wastewater from industrial processes.
Gaseous Waste (Industrial)
Emissions released into the air, including greenhouse gases and pollutants from industrial activities.
Pest (General Definition)
Any living thing – plant, animal, or microorganism – that has a negative effect on humans or is a nuisance to man.
Rodents (as Pests)
Pests like rats and mice, drawn to waste sites for food and shelter, and known to transmit diseases.
Insects (as Pests)
Pests like flies and cockroaches, which can breed in waste and spread diseases and bacteria.
Physical Pest Control
Using mechanical tools, equipment, and machinery to capture, exclude, or destroy animal pests (e.g., trapping, fencing).
Chemical Pest Control
Using pesticides (e.g., insecticides, rodenticides) to kill or repel pest animals, used with caution due to environmental risks.
Biological Pest Control
Using a biological agent to control the population of an animal pest (e.g., predators, parasites).
Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
Combines different control methods to achieve effective and sustainable pest management, emphasizing prevention.
Housefly
A household pest known for transmitting diseases like anthrax, cholera, dysentery, typhoid and tuberculosis.
Mosquito
An insect that bites and feeds on the blood of humans and other animals; females require blood meals to mature their eggs.
Anopheles
A mosquito genus known to carry malaria, filariasis, and encephalitis.
Culex
A mosquito genus known to carry encephalitis, filariasis, and West Nile virus.
Aedes
A mosquito genus known to carry yellow fever, dengue, Zika fever, and encephalitis.
Mosquito Source Reduction
Methods to reduce mosquito populations by identifying and eliminating actual or potential mosquito development sites.
Larvicide
A material (biological or chemical) deployed to kill/prevent mosquito larvae development.
