what is an online exhibition
an exhibition curated using digital technology in an online venue, online exhibitions are only available via internet access and do not exist in a physical space.
what is a virtual exhibition
an online digital replica of a physical exhibition. alternatively, it may be available through live recorded tours of the exhibition.
what is a gallery
an arts organisation in which audiences can view works of art on display indoors.
what is a museum
an organisation dedicated to the display and safekeeping of art. there can be public, private, university, and house museums.
what is a collection
the accumulation of artworks by a public, private, university, or house museum
what is a site-specific space
a space that presents artworks that have been made for a particular place
what are other exhibition spaces
these include artworks exhibited in unorthodox locations or venues during events or festivals and also artworks on display in artists studios

solo, group, thematic, survey, retrospective, performance event, temporary, permanent
what is a solo exhibition
exhibitions that feature the artwork of one artist. they can include art across many artforms, or can focus on a specific aspect of an artists' work (eg specific medium).
what is a group exhibition
an exhibition that features multiple artists, united by a theme, artistic movement, or historical art period. can be organised by the artists or a curator.
what is a thematic exhibition
an exhibition that is curated around a particular theme or idea. Often a result of long periods of consideration, research and planning.
what is a survey exhibition
an exhibition that can appear to present a more objective view than a thematic exhibition. Generally presenting art from one art movement, historical period, geographic location, or specific period of an artists life.
what is a retrospective exhibition
an exhibition that focuses on the life's work of a single artist. tend to be presented in chronological order.
what is a performance event exhibition
an exhibition that displays performance-based artworks that, depending on the artist, may only be presented once, preformed on multiple occasions, and/or video recorded.
what is a temporary exhibition
an exhibition that is only available for viewing for a limited amount of time. depending on the exhibition, this could be a single evening, or months. Majority of exhibitions are temporary.
what is a permanent exhibition
an exhibition that is on display permanently. they typically feature important artworks from a museums' collection rather than loaned works.

Lighting (LED, spotlight), spacial qualities (sightlines, flow), surface treatments (wall colour signage), placement of artworks (themes, narrative), exhibition furniture (chairs, plinths)
Define condition assessment
the process of a conservator thoroughly examining an object to identify its current condition and make repair recommendations for areas of loss, or recommendations for methods to maintain its current condition
Define preservation
making efforts to maintain an objects condition to keep it intact for as long as possible
Define restoration
making efforts to change an object to appear or function as it did at one time in the past. this could involve replacing to creating parts that may not be native to its original makeup
Define stabilisation
making efforts to reduce and minimise deterioration

planning organising and undertaking the preservation and conservation of materials and objects in private, public, and community collections, including galleries, museums , other exhibtiion spaces.
