Neuroscience
The study of the nervous system and its functions.
Neuropsychology
Relationships between brain and behavior, emotion and mental processes.
Clinical Neuropsychology
Focuses on "dysfunction" and improvement of impairment related to the brain.
Functionalism (James)
Analyzing behavior in terms of function.
Psychoanalysis (Freud)
Analyzing feelings and behavior in terms of a product of unconscious processes.
Pseudoscience
Gives the impression that it is a science but instead is not measurable or not falsifiable
Structuralism (Titchener)
The structure of feelings
Independent Variable
The variable that is being manipulated by the experimenter
Dependent Variable
The outcome that is being measured by the experimenter
Evolution
Overall change in gene frequencies within a population
Natural Selection
Genetic variation depends on survival in changing environments (adapting)
Evolutionary Psychology
evolutionary drivers of behavior, emotion, cognition, and other psychological characteristics
Population
The large group of interest to the researcher.
Sample
A smaller group that represents the properties of the population.
