Categorical
assigns a label or category to an individual
Nominal
A categorical variable that has no natural ordering of the possible values
Ordinal
A categorical variable that has a natural ordering of the possible values
Quantitative
Assigns a numeric value to an individual
Discrete
A quantitative variable where the possible values form a set of separate numbers. No possibility of being in between the numbers. (ex. shoe sizes, how many pets do you own)
Continuous
A quantitative variable where any number within an interval is possible
