Abdomino-pelvic cavity
The combined abdominal and pelvic cavities in the ventral body cavity.
Abdominal cavity
The large, superior portion of the abdomino-pelvic cavity extending from the diaphragm to the superior aspect of the bony pelvis.
Pelvic cavity
The smaller, inferior portion of the abdomino-pelvic cavity that lies within the margins of the bony pelvis.
Visceral Peritoneum
The inner portion of the double-walled membrane that surrounds the organs in the abdominopelvic cavity.
Parietal Peritoneum
The outer portion of the double-walled membrane that lines the abdominopelvic cavity.
Mesentery
A fold of peritoneum that assists in the attachment of the organs to the posterior abdominal wall.
Omenta
Protective folds of peritoneum that drape from the stomach to the colon.
Retroperitoneum
The cavity behind the peritoneum, which includes the kidneys, pancreas, and other structures.
Abdominopelvic quadrants
The four regions (RUQ, LUQ, RLQ, LLQ) that divide the abdominopelvic area for clinical assessment.
Pubic symphysis
The joint located in the pelvis; noted for its position related to medical imaging and anatomical reference.
