What is energy conservation??
Energy can’t be created or destroyed; it only changes form or moves between objects.
What are the eight energy stores??
thermal/internal, kinetic, gravitational PE, elastic PE, chemical, magnetic, electrostatic, and nuclear.
What are the four ways energy is transferred??
mechanical (e.g., stretching a spring), electrical (plugging a device in), heating (heat flow from hot to cold), and radiation (light or sound waves).
What is an open and a closed system??
an open system can exchange energy with its surroundings (e.g., a boiling kettle), whereas a closed system does not exchange matter or energy with the outside.
What is work done??
energy transferred
What are the two forms of work done??
Mechanical work: force acting through a distance (kicking a ball).
Electrical work: current flowing through a resistance (electric kettle, train brakes turning kinetic energy into heat).
