Devising - scene 6

\[belle runs frantically looking for her mother\]

Have you seen my mother?

\[belle senses something and runs to find Sarah. she finds her looking fragile\]

Mother! What’s wrong? What’s happened?

Sarah: \[gasping inaudibly\]

You were perfectly fine when i last saw you. What’s happening to you? If only we had the means to call upon a doctor.

Sarah: You have to be strong for me now my little Duck

No mother, I am going to find someone to help you. Just hang on for a few moments whilst I find help. I’ve just passed Eliza, she can’t be far away.

Sarah: ….. Amen.

\[belle runs on frantically but there is no one with her\]

I..I.. I don’t understand… everyone was here not long ago. I’m sorry mother, I’ sorry, I’ve failed you.

Sarah: …no evil would I fear, for you are with me.

You’re the only angel in a world full of devils, the sunshine in every dark room. You have been the best mother to me, never abandoned me, always stood by me. Why would anyone wish to harm you? I just can’t understand - I can’t comprehend how anyone could feel this intense hatred towards you. Please mother, stay with me, I can’t bear to live without you.

\[Sarah’s eyes slowly begin to close\]

I need to know who did this to you. I need to know who would ever want to hurt you. Mother, mother can you hear me? Please..please! I love you.

\[Belle cradles her mother and sobs uncontrollably\]
