Between-Group Design
A design that compares different individuals in separate groups.
Factorial Design
A research design that examines the interaction between two or more factors.
t-test
A statistical test used to compare the means of two samples.
ANOVA
Analysis of Variance; a statistical method used to compare means among three or more groups.
Main Effect
The direct influence of an independent variable on a dependent variable.
Interaction
When the effect of one independent variable is different at different levels of another independent variable.
Between Subjects Design
A design where different participants are assigned to different groups.
Within Subjects Design
A design where the same participants are exposed to all conditions.
Mixed Design
A design that combines elements of both between-subjects and within-subjects designs.
Correlational Research
Research that measures the extent to which two variables are related.
Causal Relationships
Relationships where one variable directly influences another.
Random Assignment
A method used to assign participants to different groups randomly to minimize differences.
Paired Samples t-test
A statistical test used for comparing two means from the same sample.
Pearson r
A measure of the strength and direction of association between two continuous variables.
Null Hypothesis
A statement asserting that there is no effect or difference.
Independent Variable
The variable that is manipulated in an experiment.
Dependent Variable
The outcome or response that is measured in an experiment.
Levels
The different categories or groups within a factor in a study.
Quasi-Experimental Design
Research that resembles experimental design but lacks random assignment.
Single-Factor Design
An experimental design with only one independent variable.
Post-Hoc Tests
Tests conducted after an ANOVA to determine which specific group means differ.
Factor Category
A classification used to group subjects based on an attribute of interest.
