1
New cards

Attenuation

the response weakens at the level of receptors. It's like the receptors become less sensitive, so the reaction isn't as strong.

2
New cards

Fade

decline in response with time.

3
New cards

Tachyphaxis

decline in response to drugs with repeated administration. Inner circle of tolerance.

4
New cards

Addiction

chronic, relapsing disorder characterized by compulsive drug seeking and use despite adverse consequences

5
New cards

Dependence

baseline functional becomes dependent on drug. The response characterized behavioral and other responses resulting in compulsion to take a drug, on continuous.

6
New cards

Tolerance

reduced effects, reaction to drug following repeated use. Or to say decrease in response to a drug that is used repeatedly.

7
New cards

Status quo

baseline is the existing state or

condition of homeostasis

8
New cards

Desensitization

your body's response to a drug weakens. It's like the body gets used to the drug, so it doesn't react as strongly when the drug binds to it.

9
New cards

Downregulation

decreased expression of drug target.

10
New cards

Sensitization

is also called reverse tolerance, increased response to a drug with prolonged(continuing for a long time or longer then usual) use.

as reverse tolerance, means your body becomes more responsive to a drug the longer you use it. Instead of getting used to the drug, your body reacts more strongly over time.

11
New cards

Upregulation

means your body produces more receptors for a substance when it's been deprived of that substance for a long time. It's like your body saying, "We need more of these receptors because we haven't had enough of this substance."

12
New cards

Supersensitivity

happens when you suddenly stop using a substance that blocks certain receptors in your body. When you block these receptors for a while, your body makes more of them. If you then remove the blocking substance, your body has extra receptors, making you super sensitive to whatever activates those receptors. So, it's better not to stop using the blocking substance abruptly.
