Medication Error
Any preventable event that may cause or lead to inappropriate medication use or patient harm while the medication is in control of healthcare professionals or consumers.
Six Rights of Medication Administration
A guideline that includes Right Drug, Right Dose, Right Patient, Right Route, Right Time, Right Documentation.
Types of Medication Orders
Different forms of medication orders such as Written, Verbal/Telephone, Standing, One-Time, PRN, and Stat.
Components of Medication Order
Includes client’s full name, date and time of order, name of medication, form, dosage, route, time and frequency of administration, and signature of the healthcare provider.
Nonparenteral Routes
Administration routes that do not involve injectables, such as Opthalmic, Otic, Buccal, Sublingual, Topical, Intradermal, Subcutaneous, Intramuscular, Intravenous, and Epidural.
Parenteral Routes
Injectable routes of medication administration including Oral, Enteral, Inhalation, Rectal, and Vaginal.

A 24-hour clock format used for scheduling and recording times in healthcare.
Prevention of Medication Errors
Involves strategies such as effective Communication, Education, Reporting Errors, and Knowing the Patient.
Accurate Calculation
The importance of precise calculations in medication administration.
Medication Administration Record (MAR)
A document that includes details of medication orders including order date, medication, administration time, nurse, and special instructions.
