Cell Theory
All organisms consist of one or more cells; cells are the basic unit of structure for all organisms; all cells arise only from other preexisting cells.
Scientific Theory
A principle that is supported by data or a collection of observations.
Scientific Law
A concise description or prediction about natural phenomena, often expressed mathematically.
Hypothesis
A testable statement that explains an observation.
Natural Selection
The process through which organisms with advantageous traits are more likely to reproduce.
Chromosome Theory of Inheritance
Hereditary information is encoded on units called genes located on chromosomes.
Central Dogma of Molecular Biology
The process by which DNA is transcribed into messenger RNA (mRNA), which is then translated into protein.
Prokaryotes
Cells without nuclei.
Eukaryotes
Cells with nuclei.
Resolving Power
The ability of an imaging system to distinguish between two separate points.
