Self-awareness
Knowing one’s emotions, recognizing feelings as they occur, and discriminating between them.
Mood management
Handling feelings so that they become relevant to the current situation and one reacts appropriately.
Self-motivation
“Gathering up” one’s feelings and directing oneself toward a goal, despite self- doubt, inertia, and impulsiveness.
Empathy
Ability to recognize one’s feelings in others and tuning into their verbal and nonverbal cues
Managing relationships
Handling interpersonal interaction, conflict resolution, and negotiations.
Information
The collection of facts related to an action, idea, object, person, or situation.
Motivation
Personal attitudes toward the behavior, perceptions of social support for that behavior, and the person’s perception as to how others behave.
Behavioral skills
An individual’s objective ability and self-efficacy in performing the behavior.
Self-efficacy
The confidence that a person has in his or her ability to perform a given behavior at the present moment.
Autonomy
Relates to the desire to be the regulator of one’s actions and that behavior is volitional
Competence
Describes the experience of feeling able to achieve a desired outcome
Relatedness
Refers to experiencing care and concern from and trust in important individuals, feeling connected, and feeling understood by others
Self-esteem
A personal assessment by a person of his or her own worth
