Visual Grammer

A basic set of rules and accepted guidelines that determine how to present visual elements in film. Film is a creative and technical craft that relies upon how well you communicate your vision to the audience.

Shot

When the camera starts recording a single action or event from a single angle

Take

Single continuous performance in a scene or of a shot that is recorded

Scene

Series of actions that occur in one location or time

Sequence

Series of scenes that are connected by event or idea

Size

Visual emphasis is directly related to the object’s size in the shot

Content

What’s included and excluded in the shot is a fundamental decision

Movement

Camera, action, or objects in frame. They can create dominance, direct attention, or establish visual emphasis
