What are the five types of blood vessels?
Arteries, Arterioles, Capillaries, Venules, Veins.
What is the primary function of arteries?
To carry oxygenated blood away from the heart.
What property allows arteries to maintain blood pressure?
Arteries have thick muscular walls and an elastic property.
How do arterioles respond during exercise?
They dilate to increase blood flow to working muscles.
What is the role of capillaries?
To connect arterioles and venules and allow diffusion of gases and nutrients.
What type of blood do venules transport?
Deoxygenated blood from capillaries to veins.
What is the tunica intima?
The inner layer lining the lumen of blood vessels, minimizing friction.
What is plasma primarily composed of?
About 90% water, and carries different ions.
What minimum percentage of blood is made up of white blood cells?
Less than 1%.
