meninges
The protective membranes that cover the brain and spinal cord, consisting of three layers: dura mater, arachnoid mater, and pia mater.

dura mater
The outermost layer of the meninges, providing a tough protective barrier for the brain and spinal cord.

Arachnoid mater
The middle layer of the meninges, characterized by a web-like structure that cushions the brain and spinal cord, and contains cerebrospinal fluid.

Pia mater
Only 1-2 cell layers think (can’t see)

Gyri
are the raised folds on the surface of the brain, which increase its surface area and accommodate more neurons.

Sulci
are the grooves or indentations between the gyri on the surface of the brain, also contributing to the brain's surface area.
