What are the four steps of the CO-OP method?

Spina bifida occulta
A slight defect of one or more vertebrae with no protrusion of the spinal cord, resulting from poor closure of the neural tube during fetal development
Spina bifida myelomeningocele
A birth defect in which the spinal cord is exposed through an opening in the neural tube
Type 2 Chiari malformation
Overgrowth of brain tissue in the spinal cord. Can lead to weakness and paralysis of the upper extremities and diaphragm (interfering with breathing)
Tethered cord syndrome
Fixation of the spinal cord in an abnormal position (e.g. from lypomyomeningocele), leading to scoliosis, LE deformities, and/or chronic hip dislocation
Hydrocephalus
A buildup of CSF creating pressure on the brain, which can lead to permanent brain damage
What are the three subtypes of ADHD?
Inattentive, hyperactive, and combined
What are some common sensory integration problems seen in Down syndrome?
Poor kinesthetic awareness, poor auditory processing, and visual-motor integration difficulties
What are signs of atlantoaxial subluxation to watch for when working with children with Down syndrome?
Loss of bladder control, sudden onset of weakness/incoordination/tactile sensitivity, neck pain
