participants were shown a video of a collision between two cars, they were then asked to estimate the speed of one of the cars. however in each condition the severity of the verb changed from bumped, smashed, hit and contacted eg what speed do you think the car was going at when they hit eachother?

that as the percieved severity of the word increased so did the estimate of the speed with up to a 10 mph difference
