As a witness is it your responsibility to intervene? Why or why not?

If I didn't do anything when witnessing an ethical dilemma, I would always question if my inability to act or my fear of repercussions/feeling uncomfortable could have potentially helped resolve that moment even for a second. It wouldn't have hurt to try, but there can always be some positivity out of it.

Have you ever witnessed or personally experienced a situation where professional boundaries were crossed?

When I was working as a medical technician, overtime my Health and Wellness Director (HWD) was becoming increasingly fond of / closer to one of my co-workers. From simple gestures to full-on flirtations in the workplace, the relationship was headed into a more romantic setting. As a leader of the caregiving team, I wanted to not only ensure fairness for everyone but to make sure that the relationships were professional at the same time. Nothing is wrong with having those personal relationships, but you have to do them in a way that doesn't compromise the working dynamic of the healthcare team. I had to have a private conversation with both my HWD and my coworker and say how having these relationships could be seen as favoritism towards the other. This could create problems down the line in terms of trust and potential drama within the healthcare team, putting both their professional integrities in jeopardy. After explaining to them the possible repercussions, they both agreed on the issue at hand and maintained greater professionalism in the workplace.

Describe a time when you helped resolve a conflict between two friends or acquaintances?

As a medical technician, there was a time when my caregiving team was fighting over workers not pulling their slack in the workplace. The nursing home was divided into 4 sections (1-4) and it was one caregiver per section. Sections 3 and 4 had the more acute care residents and required more time and energy addressing their needs. The caregivers in sections 3 and 4 were complaining that the caregivers in sections 1 and 2 were not pulling enough slack and being lazy / sitting around when they could be helping them with their more physical duties. The caregivers in sections 1 and 2 complained that the caregivers in sections 3 and 4 took on too many duties and didn't communicate efficiently / let them do their duties which is why they were being perceived as lazy. In addressing this situation, I had a private conversation with each member individually and gained the general consensus that communication and properly delegating tasks were the biggest issues. I spoke with my HWD about getting better functioning radios to ensure better communication, as well as suggesting to rotate the caregivers per section so they all get the opportunity to share the workload. By instituting these policies, there was a lot less conflict within my team and we could focus more on the healthcare we provided.

Describe a time when something inappropriate was posted on social media and how you responded.

A story about a friend posting defamation of police station on FB. How he felt it was right because of the history of police brutality in his family because he is black. Although I sympathized with him and felt so sorry that he and his family were treated way, I had to tell him in private that doing so might seem like an outlet to him at that moment, but the repercussions of his actions could negatively impact him later. Issues with him getting into universities / professional occupations and how this message will affect not only him but his family and the many who view and share this on social media. There are other ways to voice your opinion (peaceful protests, city hall demonstrations, etc.) but defaming city property is not one you should willingly participate in. He took down the photo and issued an apology to the city but advocated for more advanced policies and considerations in how police are trained to recognize and pacify situations

Discuss a time when someone you admired disappointed you.

In high school, having a teacher that was against underage drug abuse yet confessed he did and still uses marijuana for stress relief purposes. Hypocritical in a sense but there was a disconnect with his beliefs and his practice. I told him there are other ways to manage stress that he didn't need drugs to do it. I had no problem with him using recreational drugs but I didnt want him to teach others his beliefs but not fully practice them.

Describe a time where you witnessed or personally faced a conflict of interest.

When someone asked me for a letter of recommendation for a nursing program but even though we were friends her work ethic was not the best. I caught her sleeping on the job once and not having a formidable reputation with the residents I had worked with at the nursing home we were both employed at. I told her I would be happy to write the letter but warned her it would not be the best due to what I have witnessed in her performance. I informed her of others who would be willing to write her a stronger letter of recommendation. It would not be in my best interest to recommend someone who I feel couldn't best exemplify what qualities her future profession demanded.

Describe a time when something for which you had high expectations fell through.

Was really good at basketball and wanted to play for my local YMCA as a kid, but unfortunately broke my arm and couldnt even dribble a ball correctly for almost 2 months. I became so disheartened and hated the fact that I was clumsy enough to break my arm in the first place. However, I learned to not dwell on this mistake and through physical therapy I picked up a greater love for badminton while strengthening my left arm again.

Describe an ethical dilemma you have faced and how you dealt with it.

Cheating in college from one of my best friends. As a UCI undergrad, I studied for my Human Physiology final exam by carefully re-reading lecture notes and mastering concepts behind complex biological mechanisms. Days before the test, one of my best friends told me he found old final exams online and wanted to share them with me. Although the course was indeed challenging, I was so close to becoming a senior Ecology and Evolutionary Biology student, and I didn't want to jeopardize my education.

In a private conversation, I asked him not to use these exams while studying or share them because this would create an unfair advantage for him and others, demonstrating academic dishonesty. Due to having increased pressure on academic performance from his physician-based family, he said he needed these exams. Although I sympathized with his situation, I told him that he could study with me or utilize additional tutoring and office hours to understand the material better instead of relying on cheating.

However, he remained firm on his stance and warned me not to tattletale. I was worried that my actions would damage our friendship, but I knew I had to do the right thing. The day before the final, I met with my professor privately and told her about what I had witnessed. She appreciated me coming forward and said she would handle the issue. After taking my final, my friend told me that he failed the class due to reported cheating. He scolded me and said he never wanted to see me again.

Despite the repercussions I received, my integrity demonstrated consistency in my character while struggling to compromise a friendship vs. my ethics. In my life, it is essential to be always steadfast in my values, being diligent in my work to display responsibility, trustworthiness, and honesty. Integrity enables me to improve the relationships that I have in professional settings, creating a more excellent team dynamic and upholding the mission of what my team and I strive to accomplish.

Scope of practice questions

What is the practice of the physician? He can still prescribe medications to stabilize.

Depends on area that a physician is practicing in. May have wider scope of practice / more privileges in areas that are more medically underserved. If physician couldn't get an experienced physician to do the work or if he couldn't refer the patient to a hospital that could, then the physician can do the best in his knowledge, resources, and skillsets to stabilize the patient. However, you should try to remain in your scope of practice to avoid negative repercussions of the act, not only for yourself but for your patients.

When an obese person is next to you on the plane

As part of the cabin crew, my job, of course, is to keep you safe, but it's also just as important to me that all of my passengers are comfortable, regardless of their class of travel, mileage-club status, or even size.

So what should you do if you find yourself in this potentially awkward situation? First and foremost, I sincerely hope that your cabin crew possesses enough situational awareness to assist discreetly, without being asked, so that nobody is made to feel uncomfortable, hurt or unwelcome. Shuffling passengers around, like what happens when families get seated separately, is a routine part of our job and this is just one more circumstance in which we might have to do that. Hopefully your crew are on the ball and able to move someone, eliminating the need for anyone else to ask questions that could be potentially embarrassing.

If that doesn't happen though, there are a few things you can do, regardless of which party you are. Communication is key, so talking to your cabin crew is always a good bet. Keep it discreet and have that chat in the galley — out of earshot of other passengers, so as not to offend anyone or cause someone any further discomfort — and ask if they know of any other available seats you might be able to move to.

Moreover, communicating with your seatmate is also a great solution, especially if there are no other seats available. Getting to know the person next to you adds a human element to the situation, and now the person who was potentially a source of discomfort is someone you know, and therefore less likely to a be a source of frustration, discomfort, or embarrassment. The fact is airplanes are not made with people of size in mind. Rather than fight that, getting to know the person next to you will hopefully alleviate some of the awkwardness, letting you make the best of the situation.

Lastly, you can always wait to get on the plane until the very end of the boarding process. If there are spare seats, you'll have an idea of where they are and can just grab one, with the hope that nobody else will be getting on the plane behind you.

I realize that these are not life-changing, ground-breaking ideas. Fitting into the flying sardine cans that we now call airplanes is difficult at the best of times — add to the equation the fact that the seats are designed for one specific body type that's not at all representative of everyone who makes up the "flying public" and you have a situation that can be uncomfortable for all parties involved.

It doesn't have to be, however. In my opinion, the best thing you can do is communicate both with your crew and the person sitting next to you. If another seat is found, everyone involved ends up with enough space to feel comfortable. If not, at least you've started to get to know the person you're sitting with. At the end of the day, your fellow travelers are humans — people with feelings, stories and baggage (both carry-on and emotional!) — and remembering that will help bring back some of the humanity to air travel that I think we can all agree has more than disappeared as of late.

Views on animal testing

Products are tested on animals for three reasons: safety (this includes correct product labeling), efficacy and liability. Many products undergo animal testing for safety to meet legal requirements to identify potential hazards to humans, animals and the environment. Even non-regulated products, such as cosmetics, are commonly animal-tested for safety for the purpose of liability. (Companies do not want to market a product that could result in legal claims.) Drugs intended for human or animal use are additionally tested for efficacy (i.e., effectiveness in treating a condition or disease). This testing typically involves animal models as well. For drugs, agency approval to conduct human testing in clinical trials typically requires a company to submit the results from animal testing data and toxicity data.

Animal testing is not always predictive of human health effects. The best tests for human toxicity would be conducted using humans, which is unethical. However, science has greatly advanced since the development of the methods of animal testing that are still in use today. Cell culture, molecular and computation methods (in silico methods) are now well-developed scientific tools. In vitro methods based on human cells and tissues are now being developed and evaluated for assessing toxicity. Toxicity testing, however, has not had the urgency and support of government funding programs that disease-based research has enjoyed, although this seems to have improved over the past several years.

Progress has been slow, because scientists pursue work in areas where funding is available. However, as new human-based in vitro test methods become available for regulatory testing, and the results provide better protection of human health when implemented, additional funding should be allocated for the development, validation and implementation of more human-based testing methodologies.

Faster and cheaper tests are needed: Many chemicals used in products today have not been tested, so their safety is largely unknown, and new chemicals and products are entering the marketplace at an ever-increasing pace. In fact, it is estimated that there is a backlog of more than 80,000 chemicals for which potential toxicity is largely unknown. The animal testing methods are slow and expensive, and safety testing using existing methods cannot keep up with the demand. The in vitro and computational methods being developed have the potential to provide faster testing.

New test methods may not be cheaper initially, but should be less expensive over the long term. And as in vitro toxicity tests advance, they should show greater predictivity than the animal testing that is currently used.

Perhaps the most commonly known method of animal testing for toxicity is the Draize rabbit eye test, intended to predict whether a product or chemical would cause injury to the human eye. A reversible effect to the eye from a chemical is called eye irritation (or ocular irritation), and an irreversible effect that would result in permanent eye injury is called eye corrosion (or ocular corrosion). The Draize test involves placing a small volume of the substance into one eye of each rabbit in a small group of animals (typically three to six), and then recording specific effects observed in that eye over time (typically up to 21 days). The gross nature of this test and the likelihood of pain to the animals have evoked widespread public outcry against it. Scientifically, the test has been poorly reproducible, and not always predictive of the human response. The results are subjective and variable due to human scoring of the rabbit eye injuries, variations in the test method and other factors. Progress toward replacing this animal test with alternative non-animal test methods has been slow, disorganized and subject to political influences. However, a number of in vitro ocular test methods are now available, each with specific limitations, but the strategic testing lab can usually find a combination to address most testing needs.

The Draize test for skin irritancy, which was first introduced in 1944, has been used to measure the inflammatory response produced when a test substance is applied to the shaved and abraded skin of a group of rabbits, and can cause intense pain, burning and itching. (Skin is abraded by firmly pressing adhesive tape onto the animal's body and quickly stripping it off, and is repeated until several layers of skin have been removed.) The good news is that the use of this animal testing method has been largely replaced with validated alternative methods. The Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Pesticide Programs, for example, relies on data from the Local Lymph Node Assay. Additionally, in 2015, several new in vitro methods were approved by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development for in vitro skin sensitization testing. Combinations of the in vitro methods using integrated testing approaches will be needed to substitute for the animal testing.

Another traditional animal toxicity test is the LD50 test, which stands for the lethal dose of a given test substance in 50% of the test's animal population. The test, performed mainly on mice and rats, is commonly used to evaluate the human health endpoint of acute oral systemic toxicity where animal subjects are force-fed oral doses of the chemical being tested. This oral systemic test is used as a general indicator of the overall relative toxicity of a substance. Many scientists claim that the oral LD50 test has little relevance to evaluating the human safety of a substance, and some agencies and international organizations have withdrawn their requirement for this type of test data. Progress toward replacing the LD50 test with alternative non-animal methods has been ongoing, but the test involves toxicity to the whole organism, and is therefore biologically complex (and difficult to replace with alternative methods

If you were given $10 million dollars what public education system issue in your community would you address?

The ratio between faculty and student. Essentially allowing for more small classroom settings so students aren't left behind or always having difficulty in learning concepts. As a teacher you want all your students to be well equipped to adequately address any problem in homework or in exams. You want them to understand concepts and apply them in different practical scenarios instead of simply memorizing and regurgitating info on an exam. If they are falling behind, in a smaller classroom with more faculty you can provide more resources and attention for these students to better grasp the curriculum.

Describe a time when you have entered a conflict with a supervisor.

When trying to schedule time off during christmas break but was not allocated all the time I wanted. Even though I never called in sick, missed a shift, and even covered for missing coworkers when they were absent for whatever reason, I had hoped that my PTO time scheduled would be validated from all the hard work I put into it. My supervisor did sympathize with me and that I did deserve the time off, but she needed enough available staff to cover the winter holidays. Through planning out my schedule and having private conversations with her, I compromised in that even though I didnt get all my time off and worekd over the holiday, I scheduled a longer vacation when it was not as busy / when more people could cover my shifts. This ensured a good working dynamic and that all aspects were considered in my role with the company.

What does cultural competency mean to you?

Cultural competence is the ability to understand, communicate with and effectively interact with people across cultures. Cultural competence encompasses. being aware of one's own world view. developing positive attitudes towards cultural differences. gaining knowledge of different cultural practices and world views

Cultural competency means that I have a well-rounded / global view of people from diverse backgrounds, cultures, creeds, and ethnicities. With this, it means I can be more flexible / better relate or understand the needs of these people that I would converse with every day in a professional environment. In my experiences in healthcare especially volunteering as a Hoag Health Scholar, I addressed the needs with many diverse patients there, and even if their views were different than mine, I still took their needs into consideration with the healthcare I provided. This ensured that there was no miscommunication or discrimination towards my patients.

Under what circumstances should underage children work

There are many different positive and negative aspects when it comes to allowing underage to work. It enables them to become more financially independent from their parents, earning a small income to pay for miscellaneous items or even investing in their education in the future. It also allows them to become more proficient in teamwork and communication skills which will be beneficial in their professional careers. However, there have specific guidelines that dictate how long and where underage children should work. Family businesses that are non-agricultural or deemed hazardous by the Secretary of Labor should not allow children to work as it creates a potentially harmful environment for the child. Agricultural business such as farming or family run businesses can employ children but have to be considerate of their educational obligations and to not impede their success in school. There should also be guidelines into the tasks or responsibilities these children can perform so it doesn't negatively impact their long-term health or educational success. By taking into these considerations, employers can promote greater well-being for their potential underage employees without compromising their responsibilities in school or otherwise.

Although there may be benefits in some instances, many studies have found that work by young children or long hours of work are harmful to both their schooling and future earning potential. Many of the working children interviewed during our research reported missing school and having difficulty concentrating in school or completing their homework because of the demands of work. As a result, many perform poorly, are held back and forced to repeat grades, or drop out altogether.

The principal federal law that addresses the protection of children at work is the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). This act allows for the regulation of the hours and types of work performed by individuals under the age of 16 so that their employment ''is confined to periods which will not interfere with their schooling and to conditions which will not interfere with their health and well-being"

The act prohibits "oppressive child labor in commerce," which it defines as work that may be detrimental to children's health or well-being.

If needing to work in family business or practices, there should be regulations and considerations in not endangering their schooling or well being.

Minors younger than 14 may work for their parents (except in mining, manufacturing, or the jobs declared hazardous by the Secretary of Labor). They may also be employed in movie, radio, or theatrical businesses and to deliver newspapers. the FLSA limits the number of hours and the times of day at which work can begin and end for those under the age of 16;

Under Age 14:Children under age 14 cannot work any non-agricultural jobs unless employed by their parents in a non-hazardous industry.

Ages 14-15:Children ages 14-15 can only work hours when they are not in school. There are also rules about how many hours they can work each day. They can work up to 3 hours per day on a school day, and 18 hours total during a school week.

They can work up to 8 hours on a non-school day, and 40 hours total during a non-school week.

One exception to this is that they can work extra hours if they are working for a state-sponsored career exploration program or work-study program through the Department of Labor.

Finally, there are limits on the specific hours of the day they can work. Generally, they can only work from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. However, from June 1 through Labor Day, they can work between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m.

Ages 16-17:There is no limit on the hours that someone age 16 or 17 can work. However, if you are under 18, you cannot work in a job that the Labor Department considers hazardous, as mentioned above.

Age 18 and over:There are no limits on the hours you can work if you are 18 or older.

Exceptions to Restrictions

Generally speaking, age-based work restrictions don't apply to minor workers who are employed by their parents or guardians. The exception to the exception? Those hazardous industries listed above.

Employees under the age of 18 cannot work in mining or manufacturing, for example, even if they would be employed by their family.

Do you think finances and friendship should go together? Why or why not?

There can be potential negative impacts when mixing finances with friendships. For starters, because they are your friend, your emotions may become entangled with the decisions you make, which can lead you to being taken advantage of by your friends. With even small monetary amounts, overtime these can accumulate into larger amounts of debt / freeloading.

It can be somewhat frustrating to know that there is a lingering sense of "This person owes me" during every social outing with that person, which you don't want to have when trying to unwind. To address this situation, state early on before going out where you are going and if food is involved the price range of meals so that everyone has had a heads up to how much money to bring. You can also just bring money for yourself so that you don't feel obliged to spend on anyone who might take advantage of you.

You can also be upfront with your friends about this issue and state how it makes you feel in an attempt to show them the otherwise of their money borrowing.

"I value our friendship too much to get money involved. But I will support you in any other way that I can. I'll help you move/help you find a lawyer/pass your résumé along to my network." If your friend tries to guilt you into loaning them money even after you've said no, that's not a good friend, so stand firm.

If your friend needs a co-signer, that's a sign that they have been deemed a financial risk by the bank or landlord. By co-signing, you're saying that if they stop making payments, you'll step in to take care of it. First, your credit score will get battered. Then, the financial institution will turn to you and demand you start paying for the loan.

Going to your friend and asking them to start paying the loan again probably won't work - if they could pay it, they would be. So now you have terrible credit, and a new payment to take care of every month.

How to handle it: It's best to never co-sign for a loan for a friend, ever. Again, you can offer to help in non-monetary ways. You don't need to offer an excuse for this one, but, "I'm sorry, but I'm planning on getting my own loan for a house/car/graduate school, and I need my credit report to be clean," or "My financial advisor has advised me not to, I hope you understand," should do the trick. If you do feel compelled to help, offer to lend them money instead (again, think of it as a gift) so that your credit doesn't get ruined if they fall behind.

This can be especially hard when you have friends that aren't earning as much as you, or you want to share in your recent success. Treating everyone to champagne after your promotion is cool every once in a while. But paying for friends consistently - even a childhood friend that you trust completely - can create an uncomfortable power dynamic. They might feel awkward and guilty about it. You might find yourself getting to make all the decisions, since you paid. In the worst situation, they could be silently stewing about your behavior, but won't ever tell you for fear of losing a meal ticket. Or you could find yourself overspending, as you throw twice as much money at every vacation. That's unhealthy, expensive, and not the kind of nourishing friendship that deserves your time.

But when it comes to bigger sums, a good friend should support you in any way they can, except financially.

If group members do not own up to plaigarism

Run the paper through a plaigarism checker and see if the areas that you thought were plagiarized were indeed plagiarized. IF they were, contact the responsible individuals and see if they can remedy the issue by potentially paraphrasing the work better and using in-text citations in addition to their works cited page. If they aren't willing to do so, then I would let my team know that I wouldn't feel comfortable submitting the paper until the corrections are made. I may even have to have a private conversation with my professor in addressing the issue with/without my team members. In doing so, I don't intentionally jeopardize my academic integrity nor will my teammates.

Describe one time when your boss had to confront you about an issue with your work.

When working as a supply center manager for Thermofisher, my supervisor contacted me and said that I wasn't correctly inputting and documenting when research lab supplies arrived to the Thermofisher kiosks. Instead of acting out because I thought I was doing it correctly after intensive training, I asked her if she could be with me the next time I documented the shipments. She agreed and walked me through what I was doing wrong, explaining that I was documenting the information in the wrong system. After seeing and correcting this issue, I didn't have a problem with it again and felt more comfortable addressing my supervisor with any further questions.

Have you ever been at odds with a coworker? How did you handle this?

Yes. When I was working as a caregiver, I worked with my coworker Jasmin who wasn't participating and contributing much to our team.I decided to talk to her about it, and just suggest that we switch off tasks because I was taking on all of the tasks that she hadn't been doing. She ended up taking it really well and was really nice about it. I'm glad I addressed the problem with her directly to come up with a solution.

Describe a time when you used teamwork to solve a problem.

In my advanced anatomy class, we did medical case studies every few weeks. We were divided into groups, and given background information and medical history. As a group we had to figure out the diagnosis of the patient. At first, we really struggled with this, always running out of time before we could figure out what was wrong. However, as we learned to work as a team we got significantly better. We would create a google doc, divide out what each person was going to research, take turns discussing what we found out, and would go from there. My APD and how i overcame my learning disability through being tenacious in studying, reading, practicing problems, and speech therapy. How it was a challenge to just say "water" correctly yet persevered.

What quality or personality trait is most important in the PA profession?

I believe that you should look for candidates that are empathetic. While good grades and gpa are important, I think it is even more important to look for individuals who can understand patients and what they are going through. To be able to get down on their level, and put themselves in their shoes. Though we might not have gone through exactly what they are going through, we have all felt disappointed or scared (or whatever they are feeling), and apply that to the situation. I believe that great health care stems from empathy.

Do you get frustrated or angry?

Anger to me means loss of control. I do not lose control. When I get stressed, I step back, take a deep breath, thoughtfully think through the situation and then begin to formulate a plan of action. For instance, when I am given multiple projects to complete in a short amount of time, rather than feeling frustrated, I come up with a strategy for how to complete the work in a steady, methodical manner that will not overwhelm me.

Tell me about a time that you made a mistake at work?

When I accidentally gave a customer full strength coffee when she had a heart condition and only could drink decaf. She was polite when calling back and said I think the barista made a mistake and I aplogized profusely because I should have taken her needs more into consideration despite being swamped with many customer at the time of making her order and trying to fulfill multiple orders at once. Since then, I learned to be extremely careful about focusing on one task at a time.

What do you do if a patient refuses to be seen by a PA?

First off, everyone is entitled to what kind of provider they want to see. I would tell them what a PA is and that I work together with the physician to give the best possible care. I would also tell them about my education. If they still insist on seeing a physician, I would thank them for listening ot me, and have them see the physician.If the patient isn't comfortable with the provider or doesn't trust them, then we are not giving them the best possible care.

Imagine that you witness your attending doing something that in your opinion does not fit the standard of care. How would you react?

I would take a step back and analyze the situation and try to understand the thought process of why the physician made that order-If I was still unsure I would consult the ordering physician and try to determine why he chose that treatment bc it could have been a mistake- made by me or by physician- If I know with 100% certainty that it is a mikstake, I would not follow those orders and tell the supervising physician that I am not comfortable with that

I believe it is the students fault. Everyone learns differently...while the teacher may not have explained it the best to you...it could have made perfect sense to someone else.Learning is not a passive activity. You have to put in the effort and hard work, even if the teacher isn't explaining it in the best possible way. You can also always ask the teacher if they can teach it to you differently.If the teacher is unwilling to work with you, then that is a different story

I once had a older-male patient who was inappropriate around the female technicians at my physical therapy clinic. I confronted my boss about it and told him my concerns and that I was uncomfortable working on him. My boss was very understanding and receptive. He was also able to talk to the patient, and make sure it didn't happen again.

You are an Uber driver because you are trying to make some extra money. One night at 2am you take 3 men home who appear to be intoxicated. When you drop them off they appear to be heading to their car. What do you do?

In this situation I do not want to jump to conclusions that the individuals are all drink and are planning on driving. However I am concerned with the situation. It could very well be the fact that one of them is not drunk and was the designated driver, or that they were waiting for someone to come pick them up. Nevertheless, I cannot take the risk of not acting any further. If they are intoxicated and get behind the wheel, the are not only putting themselves in danger, but also all other drivers and pedestrians. This would further harm any families of the people involved. As a result, I would approach them non confrontationally and attempt to understand what they are doing. If I am certain that no one them will be driving then all is resolved. If I even slightly concerned that they are all drunk and are planning on driving home then I would attempt to persuade them not to and offer them a ride to their destinations. And encourage them to call Uber the next day so they can pick up their cars. If they refused I would call the police. If I let them drive intoxicated it will put everyone at risk, including my job as well as the Uber company.

There are currently increasing talks of increasing the rate at which Syrian refugees are allowed to enter Canada and the United States. Both countriesm much like their European counterparts, have had to implement measures to regulate the influx of refugees in the country. One controversial

The Syrian refugee crisis is a major concern for everyone, especially those countries who have stepped up to accept the large number of incoming refugees. The policy introduced seems to be concerned about striking a balance between humanitarian needs and security needs. Some argue that by limiting entry to families, we reduce the risk of having individuals who are a security concern from entering the country. But of course, others argue that by simply and arbitrarily excluding young, single males from entering the country we are not only acting in a discrimnatory manner, but we are also not reducing our security concerns, as anyone entering the country could potentially be a security risk. Therefore, I do not agree with such a policy and I think other steps need to be taken in order to effectively screen refugees prior to granting them entry into the country. This has to be done effectively and efficiently so that we act in a humanitarian manner without risking the safety and security of US and Canadian citizens. n\

You own a law firm and your student accidentally destroyed evidence that freed someone (showed that they were innocent). However, if you tell on your student they will go to jail. If you do not, the inncocent person will go to jail for no reason. What do you do?

I would first have a private conversation with my student to gather all the facts. I would want to ensure that the evidence was truly acidentally lost and no foul play was involved. I would also try to sttempt to replace the lost evidence. If this could not be done, as a lawyer, I would be bound by my professional obligations and code of ethics to report the accident to the authorities. Although this would cause immense harm to the student and her familiy, etc. and of couse I would be sympathetic and offer any support, it would be illegal and unethical to not inform the authorities and send an innocent person to jail. If I fail to act ethically and legally, would lose my license to practice law, defame the practice which effects the employees, and set a bad example for my student. However, i would ensure authorities that it was an honest mistake and ask them to be considerate of that.

What if you have evidence (that will not hold up in court) that the person is guility. What would you do?

As the director of the law firm, I will have to act legally and ethically. The information I have regarding the client being guility may not be accurate or I could be misinformed. It is also not relevant to this specific case. At the end of the day, it is the role of the court to decide who is and is not gulity. However, I will certainly advise the authorities and have them attempt to gather evidence that could prove he is guilty. IN this instasance, I would still report the accident to the authorities because it is the correct and ethical thing to do. We must trust that the justice system will act in a approprate manner to punish those who are guilty of serious crimes. If I fail to act ethically and legally, I could lose my license, runining the reputation of the firm, and being a bad example to my student.

Regardless of what we do in life, there will be times when we will come into a disagreement with an authority figure or superior. Describe a time when you came into conflict with an authority figure and how you dealt with it?

Shower Schedules as a caregiver. My supervisor wanted to do them by having us choose but I said that would be unfair because people could pick the less intensive or hands on patients to shower and then the harder to handle patients others would be stuck with. I tried to make it fair for everyone and that we all knew how to shower our residents so that in case one of us were missing we knew the routines. After having this private conversation with my supervisor eventually she agreed and compromised on the issue with me. eNsured a fair working dynamic.

What if you caught a student cheating?

I would talk to them first and tell them I was uncomfortable with them cheating, and encourage them to tell the professor, and if they didn't I would.I think a lot of cheating stems from lack of preparation. In college there were a lot of times in class where the material didn't come as easy to me as it did to others- I had to put a lot of work into understanding it. So I think cheating is unfair to me and the rest of the students who did prepare and study adequately.If we allow others to cheat we are only cheating them, and their future patients.

First I do not want to jump to any conclusions. I would ask Sue if everything was okay and if anything was going on outside of class in a non- accusatory manner. Sue could be going through a difficult time that we do not know about. If this was the case then I would ask her if there was anything we could do to help her, offer campus resources that might be beneficial, and consider talking to the professor to explain the situation. If Sue said nothing was going on, but still seemed to be troubled I would talk to her privately to make sure that nothing else was really going on. If there was nothing else going on, and Sue was simply not contributing to the group then I would reestablish expectations with the group. I would collaborate with everyone and find everyone's role in the group and make sure that everyone finds it fair and agrees.By Sue not contributing the group, it affects her grades as well as the entire groups grade. It could further effect other students in the class as not all members are doing equal work.

time you failed and how you handled failure

During my undergraduate experience, I took anatomy. On my first test in the course, I failed. I was extremely discouraged and frustrated. However, I realized that I could either continue to feel down about the difficult course or the experience could fuel my desire to work hard and do better on the next test. For the next month, I met with my teacher regulary to go over concepts that were difficult for me. I also made a rigorous study schedule so that I could give myself proper time to study for the class. For the second test, I received a much higher grade. This experience taught me that there will always be times when we fail. It is what we choose to do after that will affect the future. The only thing we can do is move forward and try to do better next time.

TA in high school statistics with a friend of mine who was a girl. Teacher gave me more work to do while the girl was allowed to do study hall and only had basic tasks such as cleaning the white board. Teacher said that she was on Academic probation and tried to allot more time for her studies and knew I could handle the extra responsibilities with my school load. Although appreciative of the comment, I still addressed this situation because it wouldn't be fair to me to work harder and receive the same amount of credit as she did.

You work at a retail store. A customer wants to return an item for an $80.00 cash refund without a receipt, which is against the store policy. She pleads her case, explaining that she needs the money for her child's prescription. I would first express my apologies to her that we were unable to make the refund. As an employee I do not have the authority to override an established rule. Though this could have a negative impact on the customer, as well as her child (if she was being truthful), if I allowed the return, I would be sacrificing my job as well as being a bad example to the new employee. It could also lead to damaging the stores reputation as others might try to want the refund as well without a receipt. However, I would be as sympathetic as possible as this is something the customer obviously does not want to hear.

A time when you worked with others unlike yourself

During college I was randomly assigned to a group to work on a class project with. We all got along great, but whenever we would get together to work on the project, our group would often get sidetracked because the members wanted to talk about things not related to the project. However, I really like to get projects done quickly and not procrastinate. In order to use our time wisely, I thought it would be a good idea to use the first 15 minutes to just talk and hangout before we started working on the project. I found that this strategy helped us still be able to enjoy our time together, as well as get our project completed on time.

f the new employee gave the refund, I would confront her about the situation. I would encourage her to talk to our supervisor and explain the situation because an established rule was broken. If she would not talk to the supervisor, I would tell them. As the more experienced employee it is my obligation to let my supervisor know, if the other employee was unwilling to tell them. If I did not talk inform my supervisor of the situation, I could potentially lose my job as well as put the newer employee at risk. I could also risk defaming the store as other people might try and want exceptions.

I would consider changing the policy to only allow purchases of 20 dollars with cash since that is the largest amount that can be refunded.I would consider trying to find a system that tracks individual's purchases so if people did lose their receipt, we are still able to find record of it. I would also implement a system where receipts could be emailed or texted to their phone so it would be easier not to lose the. These new attributes could make the policy more fair to those in a similar situation as the customer.

You're a pilot waiting at the airport for your next assignment. You are sitting at the bar with a colleague who is also awaiting an assignment. Your colleague gets a call informing him of his next assignment. You over hear him accept the assignment, you have observed that he has been drinking beers at the bar while waiting.#1 What is going through your mind at this point?

At this point, I need to remain objective, non-judgemental and not jump to any premature conclusions based on the primary observations made. I do not want to make the assumption that my colleague is being irresposible and unprofessional by drinking alcohol while accepting an assignment. It could very well turn out that my collegue looks like he is drinking an alcoholic drink, but it could be non- alcoholic beer. Or since I did not hear the complete conversation on the phone, it could turn out that the colleague said yes to an assignment that could be tomorrow or a few days from now. However, it could also turn out that my colleague was drinking and did accept a near assignment. Thus for these reasons, I will discuss the matter privately with my colleague in a non-accusatory manner to gain more information as I am concerned about the well being and safety of all those involved, most importantly, the potential passengers.

In this situation I do not have all the information so it is important that I do not jump to any premature conclusions. I would talk to my colleague privately and first apologize for overhearing his conversation. Then, I would simply mention to him that I observed him drinking what appeared to be beer and that I was concerned if his next assignment was immediate. At this point, a few things could happen. He could say that his next assignment was not immediate or that he was consuming non-alcoholic beer, at which point there would be nothing to be concerned about. Alternatively, they could say that it was an honest mistake and an oversight when they accepted the assignment, and now that I brought it to their attention they will rectify the situation by cancelling their assignment. Lastly, it could turn out that my colleague is being irresponsible and dismisses my attempts to intervene. At this point, I would strongly remind him that I am concerned about everyone's safety, and if they are unwilling to talk to the supervisor then I would be obligated to do so regardless of how it would affect our relationship.

As a supervisor it is important to protect the safety of everyone involved. If the employee who had been drinking came up to me and explained that it was an honest oversight and as soon as he realized it came and talked to me about it, then I would find a new pilot. I would also thank him for coming to talk to me after they realized their mistake. I would also encourage them to be more careful next time they take any assignment and make sure that they are in the right state to do so safely.If another employee came to me and told me that someone had accepted an assignment irresponsibly and were unwilling to come to me, then I would cancel their assignment and find another pilot. I would also be obligated to talk to this employee and reprimand them for potentially putting an entire aircraft of people at risk. I would say that if it happened again, then there would be severe consequences.

You are a surgeon. You present to the hospital at 7:30am to prepare for the day. As you are changing, a fellow surgeon - a friend of yours - enters the change room and they are acting strangely. You smell a slight scent of alcohol when they come close to you. You know that this surgeon is next in line to run the Department of Surgery at your hospital and will be making important decisions about funding and OR time in the very near future, and you have never seen them act this way before.

In this situation, I need to remain objective and non judgemental as I do not have all the facts. I do not want to assume that the surgeon is intoxicated and will operate on a patient. Perhaps the surgeon smells like alcohol because someone spilled some on him or he is intoxicated, but not planning on operating and left something at the hospital. Alternatively, the surgeon could be intoxicated and chose to come to work and operate. Thus, I need to gather more information. I would talk to the surgeon privately and explain that I was concerned about the situation. If he was in fact going to operate and had been drinking, I would encourage him to go home and find another surgeon that could perform the surgery. If the surgeon dismissed my concerns, then I would remind him that he is putting the patient's safety at risk. He is also putting his medical license at risk, as well as mine. If he was not willing to leave then I would have to report him.

During college I was a part of a group project where we were required to teach information on the cell cycle to the rest of the class in a creative way. While I thought it would be a good idea to play a game of jeapordy with the class, the rest of my group members wanted to act it out. Though I expressed my hesitancies about the difficulty of acting it out, the rest of my group thought that was the best way to convey the information. I went along with the group and did my best to act out the topic and teach it to the class.

Describe the major differences between schoolyard bullying and cyberbullying.

There are a few differences between school yard bullying and cyber bullying. First cyberbullying is often found on social media, whereas schoolyard bullying is in a public area. In cyberbullying the perpetrator is behind the comfort of their screen, and will often say things that they may not say in person. Alternatively, in schoolyard bullying individuals are forced to confront each other in person. Another difference is that schoolyard bullying tends to involve a group and is more public.

I would confront the girl who posted the picture and ask if I could speak with her. Since cyberbullying is often done behind a screen, the perpetrators often feel more confident to say hurtful things. When speaking with her I would express how hurtful the post was, and if she could take it down. I would explain that I was not on a date and simply with my family. I would then listen to her side of the story. She might have really felt like it was a date and was worried about the guy. A few strategies to detect acts of cyberbullying is to encourage students to speak up to their teachers or other supervisors about it when they see it. They should let individuals know the harmful effects that cyberbullying has on people, and that it is necessary to report when one has seen it. Also, it is important to confront the person that is doing the cyberbullying in person. By speaking to them one on one, it is easier to resolve conflict as well as let the other person know their feelings and concerns. Since the tablets offer higher patient satisfaction and reduce error this could have a huge impact on reducing problems in the health care system. One security issue of the tablets is having all the patients information online. If anyone were to hack into the system then the patients confidentiality would be breached. The President of the United States should take precedence in situations that require urgency. If not there could be negative consequences for the entire population. If an act of terrorism or other violent act happens to the president, it often is interpreted as instability or turmoil in the nation overall.In order to protect anonymity and unpredictability in the President's schedule, it would be imperative to continue the practice of unscheduled stops. However, if it is matter that is more of a casual visit instead of something related to national security, the flight plan could be adjusted to land at times that an airport is less busy, thus causing the least delay to the smallest amount of people possible.

1. Describe a situation where you have experienced a travel delay at a time that was inconvenient for you. How did you handle it?

When I was traveling, my flight had been delayed due to a problem with one of the engines. We were forced to wait 5 hours for the engine to be fixed and allowed to fly. Though it was inconvenient, the safety of the plane is what matters most. If we were to fly on time but in a plane that was not working properly, then the safety of all passengers would be threatened. It could also have extreme consequences on the airline.

In this situation, I need to evaluate the patient. I need to do an extensive patient background as well as figureout what the current pain is. MY first thought would be to treat him with a nonaddictive pain medication such as advil. However, If I feel he is in excruciating pain then I will prescribe medication. However, Iwould schedule a follow up to evaluate other medical options such as physical therapy or another type ofprocedure that would be able to reduce the amount of pain killers he is taking. If I feel the patient is addictedto the pain medication and does not need it with his current health state, then I would discuss the risks oftaking pain medications and encourage to try another type of treatment without fulfilling the prescription forpain medication.

In this situation, I want to remain objective as I do not want to assume that my colleague is coming to workintoxicated and is being irresponsible. It is possible that the colleague simply smells like mariujauana becausesomeone close to him was using it. However, if he was not in the right state of mind he could not only put hisjob at risk, but he could also put the safety of all the riders at risk. As a result, I would need to confront him ina non accusatory manner about my concerns. If the colleague was under the influence, I would encouragehim to tell the supervisor and that he needs to go home as to not put others in danger. If he was unwilling tolisten, then I would be obligated to tell the supervisor. If he was not using marijuana, then all is resolved and express my apologies as I was concerned for the safety of everyone.

If the collegue was using medical marijuana, then I would encourage him to talk to the supervisor about it. Ifhe was using marijuana, there could be situations where he was not in the right state of mind to be working. However, if he refused, I would tell him that I needed to let the supervisor know of the situation as it could affect people's safety. AS a supervisor we are in charge of being alert and aware and it is my resposbility to keep that and to protect himself from others assuming something (any other medication it comes iwth risks and supervisor hsould be aware of that)

What is your stance on the legalization of recreational marijuana?

The legalization of recreational marijuana has its benefits and consequences. If marijuana was legalized for recreational use, states could experience and economic boom. It could also potentially lead to a decrease in crime as police officials are able to focus their attention on more violeny crimes. Lastly, there is evidence shown that it can help with chronic pain.However, marijuana has harmful effects on the body and is an intoxicating and addictive drug. It can increase the risk of heart attack, blood pressure, and decrease oxygen levels. Legalization could also mean more youth getting addicted to drugs or arrested.Though there are both sides to this argument, I believe that the negatives to legalize marijuana far outweigh the positives therefore I do not agree that it should be legalized for recreational use.

In the field of medicine as a career option, there are no guaranteed. If your specialization required 10 additional years of schooling and there were no job guarantees for when you graduation, would you still pursue medicine?

Though there is no guaranteed job security after graduation, I would still pursue the specialization and thefield of medicine because it is something that I am passionate about. There are a lot of occupations that cannotguarantee security so it is best to pick something that you really want to do. Since I am passionate about healthcare and medicine then I would still pursue it as there is uncertainty in all aspects of life.

If doctors were getting paid the same, regardless of hours they put in or the number of patients they have seen, would you still pursue the profession?

Though it may be unfair that doctors who work 100 plus hours a week, while another doctor was getting paidthe same only working 60 hours a week, i would still pursue medicine as a career. Becoming a physicianassistant was never about the salary or job security for me. It was about being able to help people and studymedicine, which is why I would continue to pursue a job in it.

Being an empathetic caregiver and despite not being able to cure every patient that I see, I can still do everything within my limits to make a meaningful difference in the lives of my patients, as I have with Peter at the nursing home.

My first reaction would be concern about the safety of the individuals. I do not want to jump to any conclusions so I need to gain more facts. There could be a possibility that it was a movie or a tv show, however, it could also be two individuals who got into a heated argument which became dangerous. As aresult, I need to take action as to find out what is exactly going on.

I would call the police as I do not know the state of the individuals. If they were fine, and it was just the tv and I called the police then all would resolved. However, if I did not call the police and individuals were hurt, it would not only affect them but their families as well. It could also put my safety in jeopardy. I would explain my concern and why I was knocking. If they still told me to go away, then I would leave andcall the police as I do not know what the situation is. If I did not call the police, I could potentially be putting individuals in danger as well as myself.

I would first realize that I do not have all the facts, and before I jump to any conclusion I need to gather all the information. First off, the information that the girl heard could be false or a misunderstanding. They might give students an option where they pay students to practice in rural areas, but it is not mandatory.If I do find out its true and I have gathered all the information from an administrator, then I would express my concerns if I still had them. Ultimately, I would have to decide with my family if the new issue fits into my current plants.

In order to relieve the shortage of doctors in rural areas, the government should come up with ways to promote it. For example, a program that pays for medical school in exchange for the doctor working in rural areas. Another example could be paying physicians a higher amount in rural areas to help persuade doctors to practice there.

Is it over okay for a professional to have a personal relationship with one of their students?

Due to the nature of the relationship between a professor and student, I believe it is not okay to have a personal relationship as it is a conflict of interest. Regardless of if you knew a stsudent beforehand, it is essentail to keep the relationship professonial during the course of the class. if it becoems personal This type of relationship can result in abuses of power creating harm to both the student and the professor. It could potentially harm and defame the university as well as hurt families involved. Due to the negative consequences, professional relationships between a professor and a student should not be allowed.

If the student did not respond to any initial attempts to stop the flirting or being inappropriate then I would report the incident to the supervisor and go from there. A solution could be to place the student in another class and maintain close supervision so this situation does not happen again.

When dealing with an uncooperative group member, I always try to see from their point of view. This helps me understand where they are coming from. I will then talk to themprivately to see if anything was going on and how I could help. I would work towards obtaininga compromise and continue moving forward.

As an office administrator, I would confront the physician and try to get more information. Since this could be a misunderstanding it is important to gain all the facts as this could be aconflict of interest of all of those involved. If the physician was receiving gifts from a pharm. company than that couldput the entire clinic at risk and ruin the reputation, as well as put people's jobs at risk. If the physician was indeed doing that, I would report it and encourage him to stop.
