Surah Al-Kahf 60-71

reason of revelation

to tell/remind the Jews that even their Prophet did not know everything and that Allah is the most knowledgeable.

قَالَ مُوسَىٰ لِفَتَىٰهُ لَآ أَبْرَحُ

Moses said to his young assistant “I will never give up

حَتَّىٰٓ أَبْلُغَ مَجْمَعَ ٱلْبَحْرَيْنِ

Until I reach the joint of 2 seas

فَلَمَّا بَلَغَا

But when they reached

نَسِيا حوتهما

forgot their fish

قَالَ لِفَتَىٰهُ ءَاتِنَا غَدَآءَنَا

he said to his assistant, “Bring us our meal!

هَـٰذَا نَصَبًۭا

this fatigue

أَوَيْنَآ إِلَى ٱلصَّخْرَةِ

rested by the rock

نَسِيتُ ٱلْحُوتَ

forgot the fish

ذَٰلِكَ مَا كُنَّا نَبْغِ ۚ

“That is what we were looking for.”

فَوَجَدَا عَبْدًۭا مِّنْ عِبَادِنَآ

There they found a servant of Ours

ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ رَحْمَةًۭ مِّنْ عِندِنَا وَعَلَّمْنَـٰهُ مِن لَّدُنَّا عِلْمًۭا

whom We granted mercy and enlightened with Our knowledge

هَلْ أَتَّبِعُكَ

may i follow you

تُعَلِّمَنِ مِمَّا عُلِّمْتَ رُشْدًۭا

teach me what you have been taught?”

قَالَ إِنَّكَ لَن تَسْتَطِيعَ مَعِىَ صَبْرًۭا

You can not be patient ˹enough˺ with me.

وَكَيْفَ تَصْبِرُ عَلَىٰ مَا لَمْ تُحِطْ بِهِۦ خُبْرًۭا

And how can you be patient with what you don’t know?

سَتَجِدُنِىٓ إِن شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ صَابِرًۭا

“You will find me patient, Allah willing

وَلَآ أَعْصِى لَكَ أَمْرًۭا

and I will not disobey your orders.”

قَالَ فَإِنِ ٱتَّبَعْتَنِى

 if you follow me

فَلَا تَسْـَٔلْنِى عَن شَىْءٍ

do not question me about anything

حَتَّىٰٓ أُحْدِثَ لَكَ مِنْهُ ذِكْرًۭا

until I clarify it for you”

إِذَا رَكِبَا فِى ٱلسَّفِينَةِ خَرَقَهَا ۖ

 they boarded a ship, the man made a hole in it. 

لَقَدْ جِئْتَ شَيْـًٔا إِمْرًۭا

You have done a terrible thing!”
