What are indirect object pronouns in Spanish?

They answer the question: “to whom?” or “for whom?”

• me → to/for me

• te → to/for you (informal)

• le → to/for him, her, you (formal)

• nos → to/for us

• les → to/for them, you all

Rule – Where do indirect object pronouns go?

1. Before a conjugated verb: Ella me da un regalo.

2. Attached to an infinitive: Él quiere darme un regalo.

3. Attached to a gerund: Está dándome un regalo.

How to distinguish the Direct Object from Indirect Object?

1. Find the verb.

2. Ask “To whom? / For whom?” → that’s the indirect object.

💡 Trick: If you can add “to/for someone” to the action, that’s an indirect object.

Ella da un regalo a mí.

Ella me da un regalo.

Él escribe una carta a ti.

Él te escribe una carta.

Nosotros decimos la verdad a ella.

Nosotros le decimos la verdad.

Ellos venden fruta a nosotros.

Ellos nos venden fruta.

El profesor explica la lección a los estudiantes.

El profesor les explica la lección.

Yo muestro la foto a ustedes.
