Atom
The smallest unit of matter that makes up everything in the world.
Subatomic Particle
Particles that make up an atom; includes protons, neutrons, and electrons.
Proton
A positively charged subatomic particle found in the nucleus of an atom.
Neutron
A subatomic particle that has no charge and is found in the nucleus of an atom.
Electron
A negatively charged subatomic particle located in shells around the nucleus.
Nucleus
The center of the atom where protons and neutrons are located.
Atomic Number (Z)
The number of protons in an atom, which also equals the number of electrons.
Mass Number (A)
The total number of protons and neutrons in the nucleus of an atom.
Relative Atomic Mass
The total mass of an atom’s nucleus, comprising protons and neutrons.
Electron Configuration
The arrangement of electrons in an atom's energy levels or shells.
