Image
A picture that has been created or copied and stored in electronic form.
Raster graphics
A type of digital image that uses tiny rectangular pixels, or picture elements, arranged in a grid formation to represent an image.
Vector Graphic
It is made up of a specific number of dots, they can be scaled to a larger size and not lose any image quality.
Design
It is the creation of a plan or convention for the construction of an object, system or measurable human interaction.
Point
Simply a dot. It establish position and acts as a visual focus.
Contour
It is created by connecting two or more points. The simplicity, complexity, elegance, and form of line.
Space
It refers to the surface that acts as a visual container, drawing attention to other visual elements in a lay out. It includes the background, foreground and middle ground, and refers to the distances or areas around, between, and within things.
Shape
It is a combination of lines, points, and shape. Unusual shape can be used to attract attention.
Color
It is the element of art that is produced when light, striking an object, is reflected back to the eye.
Size
It refers to how large or small something is in a document
Texture
The look or feel of the surface.
Balance
An even distribution of weight in a design
Contrast
It refers to the arrangement of opposite elements (light vs. dark colors, rough vs. smooth textures, large vs. small shapes, etc.) in a piece so as to create visual interest, excitement and drama.
Emphasis
It is defined as an area or object within the artwork that draws attention and becomes a focal point
Rhythm
Repetition is the simplest way to attain it and can be achieved by repeating any of the elements of design (line, colour, texture and pattern, light, and scale and proportion) or other design concepts in an organized and regular way.
Unity
A composition that is achieved when all of the design principles (balance, movement, emphasis, visual economy, contrast, proportion and space) have been correctly applied.
Pixel
It is the smallest unit of a digital image or graphic that can be displayed and represented on a digital display device.
It is the basic logical unit in digital graphics. They are combined to form a complete image, video, text or any visible thing on a computer display.
It is also known as a picture element.
GIF (Graphics Interchange Format)
A file format for storing graphical images up to 256 colors. It uses a lossless compression method which makes for higher quality output.
PNG (Portable Network Graphics)
Created as a more powerful alternative to the GIF file format. It can be saved with a transparent background which allows you to place your image on top of another image without an outlining white box.
JPG (Joint Photographic Expert Group)
A file format best used for photo images which must be very small files. It uses lossy compression
Lossless compression
Reduces a file's size with no loss of quality. This seemingly magical method of reducing file sizes can be applied to both image and audio files.
Lossy file compression
Results in lost data and quality from the original version.
GIMP
It is a free and open-source raster graphics editor used for image retouching and editing, free-form drawing, converting between different image formats, and more specialized tasks.
PIXLR
A cloud-based set of image tools and utilities, including a number of photo editors, a screen recorder browser extension, and a photo sharing service. The suite was intended for non-professionals, however the apps range from simple to advanced photo editing.
PowerPoint
It is a software package created by Microsoft. Users create a presentation with a series of slides.
Smart Art
A visual representation of information and ideas.
Chart
A visual illustration of numeric values or data.
