Electronegativity
The upper rightmost corner of the periodic table is where we find the most - things.
Metalloids show both _ and __ behavior.
metal, nonmetal
Lewis Structures
A model that allows us to predict a bonding arrangement from a molecular formula to proposing a viable structure.
Hydrides
Compounds where every possible bond with that non-hydrogen in the center is going to be hydrogen.
Lewis structure
A way to try and describe bonding, but it’s really important that we understand the limitations of this model.
Octet Rule
States that barring that shell, so hydrogen, helium, eight valence electrons is a full shell.
Arrange the atoms such that the ___ atom is in the center
highest valence
Positive charge means that we've __ an electron.
lost
A single bond is a ___ of electrons.
pair
If we have any leftover electrons from our total count, we use these to form _ on atoms that aren't yet at eight.
lone pairs
We can move a lone pair from the least electronegative, and then you move it into a __.
bonding region
Single bonds are _ and weaker than comparable double bonds.
