do not use doors, kick/smash/break/roll down the windows and escape through there
do not wait for pressur to equalize, your best chance of survival is in the first 30-120 seconds
what is potable water?
water that is safe for human consumption
what is the safest natural water to dirnk?
rainwater
where else can you get water naturally?
streams, rivers, ponds, lakes, morning dew, condensation off plants, fruits and vegetables, melt snow, dig underground
what is a positive medical test?
whatever the test was looking for is present in you
how do you treat a snakebite?
seek immediate medical attentions but in the mean time…
remove jewelry and watches (if swelling occurs it can get swollen on
keep area below the heart to prevent venom from reaching the heart
remain still and calm to prevent venom from moving through the body
cover bite with a clean, dry, and loose dressing
what is frostbite?
injury caused by freezing of the skin and underlying tissues, skin becomes very cold and red, then becomes pale, numb, and hard
how to prevent frostbite?
stay dry and avoid sweating
dress in layers
don’t eat snow
drink water
conserve energy
keep covered
use snow as an insulator if applicable
how to remove a tick?
use fine tipped tweezers to grasp as close to the skin as possible and pull upward with steady and even pressure, remove as much of the tick as possible
do not use your fingers and do not crush the tick with your fingers
how to help someone choking?
make a first with your thumb towards you, place above the belly button and cover with your other hand, make scooping motion thrusts five times, then switch to five back blows by placing the heel of your hand in between their shoulder blades and striking upward, rinse and repeat. i they become unresponsive, check their mouth for the object and then perform CPR
how do you perform compression only CPR?
Check if the person is responsive, has a heartbeat, and is breathing
Call 911 and alert someone to go get the first aid bag and AED
Care for the person by performing intervals of 30 chest compressions followed by two breaths until 911 or the AED arrives
how often should i see the eye doctor?
every 1-2 years or annually if you have glasses
how often should i see the dentist?
every six months
how often should i see my general practitioner?
until I am 30, every 2-3 years
how often should i see the gynecologist?
annually from ages 21-65
what is an insurance deductible?
the amount of $$ i have to pay before my insurance will start covering anything
what is an insurance copay?
a small, fixed amount that i pay each time a covered service is provided
