Conception
The process of fertilization that leads to the development of a fetus.
Trimester
A division of pregnancy into three periods, each lasting about 13 weeks.
Embryonic Phase
The first eight weeks of pregnancy when the embryo is developing.
Morula
A solid ball of cells that forms from the division of the fertilized egg.
Fetal Heartbeat
The sound produced by the heart of the fetus, audible by ultrasound around 6-7 weeks.
Quickening
The first noticeable fetal movements felt by the mother, typically occurring in the 2nd trimester.
Placenta
An organ that connects the developing fetus to the uterine wall, providing nutrients and oxygen.

Neural Tube Defects
Congenital abnormalities involving incomplete development of the brain, spinal cord, or meninges.
Folic Acid
A B-vitamin that is crucial for the prevention of neural tube defects in pregnancy.
