calculating percent yield of a product
1) convert given mass into moles w/ molar mass
2) use mole ratio of stoichiometric coefficents w/ desired moles on top
3)convert moles of desired into grams
4) calculate percent yield!
limiting reactant/reagant
the reactant that tells you the maximum yield of a product (used up completely)
identifying limiting reactant method 1
1) convert mass of each reactant into moles
2) calculate how many moles can be formed from each reactant
3) reactant that produces the least is the limiting
identifying limiting reactant method 1
1) convert mass of each reactant into moles
2) choose a reactant and calculate the theoretical yield of the second using the stoichiometric ratio
3) determine actual amount. which ever is greater = excess reactant and whichever is least = limiting reactant
