What is a vector?

A quantity with both magnitude and direction

How is a vector represented?

By a line segment with the arrow pointing in the direction of the vector

If PQ=RS, what is the same about the vectors?

Length

Direction

If AB = -BA, what is the same and different about the segments?

They are the same length and parallel but in opposite directions

What law is used for addition of vectors?

The triangle law (AB + BC = AC)

What is a resultant vector?

The sum of two or more vectors

If multiplying a vector by a positive number, what happens to it?

It has the same direction but a different length

If multiplying a vector by a negative number, what happens to it?

It has a different length and the opposite direction

How do you multiply a column vector?

Multiply each component by the scalar

How do you add 2 column vectors?

Add each x and y component

How can the magnitude of a vector be calculated?

Using pythagoras’ theorem

What is magnitude-direction form?

When the vector is written in terms of its magnitude and angle it makes with the positive x-axis
