Applied Behavior Analysis
The science of behavior that focuses on observable and measurable aspects of behavior, often used for behavior modification.
Behavior Modification
The application of behavioral principles to change behavior for social importance.
Respondent Conditioning
Classical conditioning; a type of learning where a neutral stimulus becomes conditioned to elicit a response after being paired with an unconditioned stimulus.
Unconditioned Response (UCR)
An unlearned and natural response to an unconditioned stimulus (UCS), such as salivation in response to food.
Conditioned Reflex
A learned response to a previously neutral stimulus that has been paired with an unconditioned stimulus.
Thorndike’s Law of Effect
Behaviors followed by satisfying outcomes are more likely to be repeated, while behaviors followed by discomfort are less likely to occur.
Scientific Methods in Behavior Analysis
Behavior analysis follows a model of other natural sciences by utilizing direct measurement of variables related to behavior.
Emotional Conditioning
The process by which emotional responses are elicited through the pairing of neutral stimuli with emotionally charged experiences.
Behaviorism
The philosophical foundation of behavior analysis, which asserts that behavior is lawful, orderly, and can be studied scientifically.
Experimental Analysis of Behavior
The scientific study of behavior through experimentation to develop principles of behavior.
Conditioned Stimulus (CS)
A previously neutral stimulus that, after being paired with an unconditioned stimulus, elicits a conditioned response.
