Vipassana meditation
Type of meditation that allows Buddhists to see things as they truly are and gain realisation about the impermanence of things and the nature of reality. Through vipassana practitioners learn to observe their thoughts and emotions without reacting to them
metta bhavana meditation
Type of vipassana meditation that involves focusing on feeling love and kindness towards oneself, and to the world around them
Samatha Meditation
A Buddhist meditation technique that involves focusing one's attention on the sensations of breathing, specifically the inhalation and exhalation of breath. Aims to focus on mindfulness and awareness of the impermanence of life.
Group Meditation
Buddhists often meditate in groups in designated spaces such as temples and meditations rooms often sitting in the lotus position to help with concentration. During group meditation one person may guide the session and lead the group in changing. Can be on different focuses.
Puja
form of devotional practice that involves making offerings, chanting and paying respects to the Buddha. Can be carried out at home or in temples, includes mantras, changing and meditation.
