Gams from Moby Dick

The Albatross

• Ahab asks his question and the Captain does not answer and drops his trumpet

• Old ship: wise and have experienced a lot

• crew looks shell-shocked

• they just sail away: significant because it is supposed to be exciting to see a ship on the ocean (gams are important for sanity and connection!)

The Town-Ho

• first response to the whale question: long story about seeing it that Ishamel re-tells after he saw Moby Dick and compares it to our story

• the story about the mutiny, Captains against each other, the revolt losing, 2 people with Steelkilt lie and say they’re with him and will murder the crew→ the tie him up

• then Steelkilt plans to kill Randey the first mate after he is shown mercy and kept alive along with his sympathizers, btu someone calls that Moby Dick is there

• Moby Dick eats Radney and Steelkilt is worried Moby will kill them so he cuts the line and leave the ship at the next port

The Jeroboam

• Ahab asks his question but crew is worried because they have an epidemic on the boat

• Gabriel and the crew
