Anything has mass and a volume (takes up space)

A substance that can not be split into simpler substances by chemical means

A substance made up of two or more elements that are chemically combined

Made up of substances (elements and compounds) mingled together but not chemically combined

Melting

The process by which a solid changes to a liquid

Freezing

The process by which a liquid changes to a solid

Vaporisation

Changing of a liquid to a gas

Boiling

The process by which a liquid changes to a gas when it is heated to its boiling point

Evaporation

The process by which a liquid changes to a gas below the temperature at which it boils

Condensation

The process by which a gas changes to a liquid

Sublimation

Occurs when a solid changes straight into a gas

Deposition

The opposite of sublimation. It occurs when a gas changes straight into a solid

Brownian motion

The random movement of microscopic particles in a fluid due to their collisions with other atoms or molecules

Diffusion

The movement of particles from the area of high concentration to an area of low concentration
