Indian Act
Legislation that governs Indian status, rights, and federal responsibilities towards Indigenous Peoples in Canada.
Enfranchised
The process by which Indigenous individuals or groups lose their Indian status and rights in exchange for certain privileges.
Marginalization
The social process of making a group or class of people less important or relegated to a peripheral position in society.
Status Indian
An Indigenous person who is registered under the Indian Act and entitled to certain rights and benefits.
Non-Status Indian
An Indigenous person who is not registered under the Indian Act and therefore does not have access to the same rights as status Indians.
Métis Citizen
An individual of mixed Indigenous and European ancestry who identifies with the Métis community and culture.
Métis Nation Accord
Agreements outlining the governance and rights of the Métis Nation in relation to provincial and federal governments.
Decolonization
The process of deconstructing colonial ideologies and practices, allowing Indigenous Peoples to reclaim authority over their land, culture, and identity.
Indigenization
The process of incorporating Indigenous perspectives, knowledge, and practices into various sectors of society.
Cultural Genocide
Actions aimed at eradicating the cultural identity of a group, including language, practices, and traditions.

Environmental Stewardship
The responsible management and protection of the environment, with consideration for ecological sustainability and Indigenous rights.
