Survivorship Curve
A graph that shows how many individuals in a group of the same age survive from birth to death.
Type 1
Mostly found in K-selected species.
High survival rates because of strong parental care.
Good survival in middle age due to size and protection.
Rapid decline in survival as they get older.
Type 2
Survival rates decrease steadily throughout life.
This type is in between r-selected and k-selected species.
Type 3
Mostly found in r-selected species.
High death rates early in life because there’s little or no parental care.
Very few survive to middle age, with a slow decline in survival at that stage.
Even fewer reach adulthood, with a slow decline as they get old.
